Who can fix it??????

Car "still" has fuelling problems running lean at high revs on 1.2bar.

No garages in Glasgow seem to have a clue what their doing with supras. At a last resort before having to take the car down south i was thinking of taking car to AVA next to Glasgow airport. Has anyone on here taken their supra to AVA and did they know what they were doing?

Cheers

Dave

No dont have an AFR. Its a costly bit of kit so not for me. The car had been checked on wideband at "the garage" in wishaw. They had said it needed a fuel pressure regulator but supras runnin at 1.2bar with a walbro shouldnt be anywhere near lean and dont need an fpr so obviously they didnt have a clue as per most supposed jap specialist garages

What mods have you got on the car?

Does it have a Mines ECU bud? I think they lean off towards the top of the rev limit. It shouldn't run proper badly lean, just more than stock.

To be honest i can't recommend anywhere as i haven't been happy with anyones knowledge and insight as of yet. Its a bad day when i know more about the car than the people that i am taking it to. I don't want to take my car to someone for them to figure out how to do something, i want them to know how to do it.

If you get anywhere remember to let us all know.

For half the price it will cost you to drive your car down south, you could have a quality AFR gauge.

It would at least help solve most of your guess work.

For once Jamesy is talking sense. Nice to have it logged as proof in a forum!

Have to agree, you could have an AFR bought and set up for about £250. You won't have anymore guesswork and you won't have to trust what other people say about your fueling.

Yeah it would be a good purchase to monitor fuelling after the problem is fixed but the current issues causing the problem are still there so id still have to "find" a garage that can solve them which is the main problem. Ill keep my fingers crossed that somone can either highly recommend AVA or somewhere else in Scotland or itll be a trip to Whifbitz,Envy......... dependent on who people recommend

Geo on here, highly recommends his mechanic Ian, of West Coast Customs, based down in Irvine.

On the back of his recommendation, mine and Scott's cars are booked in for the 17th of next month. One of the jobs being done is fitting of AFR gauges :)

Yeah id highly recommend Ian of west coast Customs mate, he's doing my Single Install and Knows his stuff.

Maybe worth a trip to see him??

I'm not sure of the extent of the work carried out but Jurgen on here might be a good shout to save a bit of traveling. He is based around the newcastle area so it wouldn't be TOO hefty a jaunt.

Im down in Troon alot so Irvine saves alot of travelling. Ive never heard of his place. Is it a proper garage with all the equipment needed to do fuelling and not some backstreet lockup with just the basics

Im sure iv seen your car about mate?? Silver??

Bloody hope he's got all the equipment?? He's building my car, he he.

Na he knows his stuff mate, although he's getting popular if you want you can come over and take you over to see him you'l see my car that he's built.

Click my link and you'l see the write up of whats going on, that Ian has done

Nah iv never had the supra down in troon. Always down in the hilux. Just added pics of my supra in profile but there not appearing under my name on left for some reason(Ive not got patience for computers). Always down in the hilux. Theres a silver uk spec that kicks about down there so its probably that one you've seen. Im based in the Mearns.

What does that place charge per hour? Its probably worth a try goin there. Find out first of all if he thinks he could do it then let him spend an hour or two at it and if he cant figure it out then nothin lost. Cheers Geo

Few quick questions

Jspec or UK? Mileage? Who supplied the Walbro? What model number? Who fitted it?

What brand FCD, who fitted it?

Do you have an aftermarket FPR fitted?

Any other 'performance mods'? How long ago was the fuel filter changed?

How do you/they know its lean if you have no AFR guage? How long ago were the O2 sensors changed or cleaned?

Its Jap, about 65k on clock from memory, Whifbitz supplied the Walbro, My mate fitted it

Cant remember fcd make that i got from Whifbitz, My mate fitted it again (Im noticing a trend here)

No aftermarket fpr fitted that im aware of

No other performance mods, Fuel filter changed few monhs ago, Car was tested at 1.2bar by garage using wideband and was told it was badly lean above 4k. O2 sensors havent been changed or cleaned that i know of.

Cheers Rob

Car used to run with BKR7E but currently has BCPR7E. As far as i know the gap wasnt set to 0.9. What is the manufactured gap on these when new? Too much cash to start buying a wideband sadly. Car just has stock twins. As far as fault codes go i wouldnt know where to start with that Rob. I havnt seen the MIL light on ever but thats as much as i know on that

I might be way off here, but have you got a boost controller installed?

Also, do you have a boost gauge?

The restrictor ring is not a hard and fast rule, different cars boost differently due to loads of varying factors. Just because you have a RR in, doesn't mean thats what the boost is.

You were probably leaning out due to overboosting

Unlikely with a Cat still in... poor Walbro fitment could cause lean running.

The FCD is also a possibility as they're wired into the MAP sensor signal to the ECU - it could be feeding duff information to the ECU causing not enough fuel to be injected as this is the signal the ECU uses to calculate how much fuel to inject. The fact that you mention a hunting idle also suggests FCD - I had a couple of duff THOR units that caused the same. Was the idle OK before FCD fitted?

Cheers,

Brian.

If the O2 sensor is duff the ECU will default to a rich mixture, so won't be the cause of the lean AFR's. Although saying that, if it hasn't been renewed for a few years then definitely worth fitting a new one.

Dave was the car running okay before fitting the fuel pump and FCD? Was it running okay after they were fitted and has just started having problems or was it like that after the parts were fitted and boost increased?
