tooquicktostop
http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1026366.htm I was looking at this very ad a week ago, it is a strong contender thats for sure, never driven one
tooquicktostop
Hows about an NSX? You should be able to get a good one for the money, and there's plenty of Autos around. Just watch for those suspension bushes! Otherwise, i'd be thinking Aston DB7 (I could live with the running costs for the looks alone), Jag XK, Volkswagen Corrado VR6 Storm (You could get a very nice low mileage one for £6-7k). As a wildcard, i'd maybe look at a Mazda Eunos Cosmo, although I hear they're rather thirsty (due to the 3 rotor 20B rotary engine) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v325/kerristallax/Japan%202009/Mazda%20Museum/IMG_1102.jpg It has to be one of those cars that makes you stop and stare, it is not always the super expensive so I like your train of thought, my 2K Camaro used to pull a crowd at times, a bit "basic" however as a driving experience
j_jza80
How about a C5 Corvette, definately 'stop and stare' material You could even pick up a Viper on that budget, but it will be manual only. The Datsun 240z is really nice if you dancy something older?
DSK
A looked after 928 especially the later cars are lovely. Its one of my all time favourite Porsches and one that I looked into before the Supra. Poorly detailed service histories (just mainly stamped books, no invoices or just straight oil & filters change) didn't give me much confidence. I think, you have a lovely purchase, provided its a genuine clean car and you aim to maintain it that way then you should be smiling for a long time
Chris Wilson
Did they make an auto 240Z? I don't believe so, but I am no expert on those at all. Maybe 260Z, almost sure they did an auto 280Z, but tyhey were `orrible things.

j_jza80
I would rather have an E Type than the Jap copy I believe this is a 'Jap E-type copy' , but i'd certainly have one of these over an E-type Coupe (And maybe even a convertible)

Todd
Had a 928 S2 and loved it but the maintenance costs were the worst I've ever come across on any car Then again, the sound was amazing

SUPRALOOPY
Cancelled the purchase, thanks for the advice Back to the drawing board, perhaps I should get someting else altogether, I do want something "classic" and unusual TFFT:d

Chris Wilson
Its not worth a look then Chris ? Possibly, but the Renault box would worry me, it will be on the ragged edge if the engine is producing the torque it should, and the thing has any meaningful traction. You have now swerved towards hard core, probably rather temperamental manual boxes! These sorts of things are only as good as the man who screwed them together and the sum of their constituent parts. Some look fabulous but probably wouldn't get you to the pub. Some look as rough as a bear's arse, but could win an endurance race
