tooquicktostop
Tell me you are joking please £9K? Is it ultra low mileage with full Porsche main dealer history or something? It'll do no more to the gallon than the Merc, probably less as the technology is a LOT older. FULL PSH I know its a lot of money, would be looking to negociate this down somewhat, it comes with a full 12 month warranty I am feeling less excited now I have to say !! Chris Wilson
How many miles on it? Auto or manual? There is a garage that specialises in very low mileage 928's, I'll try and remember the name.

tooquicktostop
Too dear. Cancelled the purchase, thanks for the advice Back to the drawing board, perhaps I should get someting else altogether, I do want something "classic" and unusual
Chris Wilson
IF you can find a really nice one have you considered a Renault Alpine GTA or later? SO light, lovely to drive, and even the turbo models are economical. I had a N/A GTA and an A610 (late turbo). Both were brilliant drivers cars. Electrics were a bit iffy (French) but the cars as a whole were infinitely nicer to drive than 911's. How about a Venturi?

Chris, I have been looking through the classic car mags for weeks, I like many of the old Ferrari's, E-type Jags, 456 Ferrari's but having an Auto limits the choice somewhat This will not be a daily driver, it will be a toy and I am done with Supras/skylines, had too many Is the 3500 Maserati or 456 Ferrari a no no ? Chris Wilson
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Venturi_Atlantique Not sure if they did an auto though. Forget the GTA / A610, no autos there

I think you'd find the Maseratis a nightmare, with huge running costs. No experience of any Ferraris bar 246 Dinos, 330GT / GTC's and 360 Modenas, well out of my road car running costs price range

Chris Wilson
This automatic thing is a bit restrictive. Can she not use a manual? Physical problem or a woman's thing, "Can't possibly drive a manual...."

Physical problem or a woman's thing, "Can't possibly drive a manual...." She passed an Auto only driving test I am happy to get her a runaround and I get a manual , you just did not hear that from me I test drove an Esprit some years ago, I hear horror stories about the reliability, I also feel they have not aged that well, not a true classic ? Chris Wilson
You'd find a 928 utterly reliable compared to an Esprit, especially an Esprit Turbo. They were really awfully hung together things. Even a TVR is probably better made, and that is saying something. What's the budget?

Ok to spend upto 25K or so, no TVR's been there done that, it spent way to much time broken

tooquicktostop
You know what ticks all the boxes? An AMG Merc.... Its a great car with a fantastic engine but it does not excite you in the least, they are not that special in Canary Wharf either, AMG's everywhere, bit like the

Auto is not the be all and end all but it is always handy if her indoors can drive you home from the pub I will need to get her a car also if I get a manual

j_jza80
Hows about an NSX? You should be able to get a good one for the money, and there's plenty of Autos around. Just watch for those suspension bushes! Otherwise, i'd be thinking Aston DB7 (I could live with the running costs for the looks alone), Jag XK, Volkswagen Corrado VR6 Storm (You could get a very nice low mileage one for £6-7k). As a wildcard, i'd maybe look at a Mazda Eunos Cosmo, although I hear they're rather thirsty (due to the 3 rotor 20B rotary engine)
