Jamesy
Hi guys just wondered what are the best things to remove for weight reduction please? Mine is a daily driver so dont want to go tooo OTT but i'd be interested to see what are the popular ones and how much they weigh.... So far i've removed: Bonnet blanket (about 10grams lol) Spare wheel Jack Tool kit Stock a/bag steering wheel with lightweight Momo Would rather keep things like door cards and back seats in as kids kinda like sitting on something!! Antything in the engine not needed? I removed the Air Con system from my Skyline and that knocked off about 30kg!!! Thanx! Jamesy
How do you steer now then? I use my small Momo wheel to point me in the right direction !!
Animal
Air con is the big one, I think. Other than that, you could replace the front seats with lightweight seats and get carbon fibre doors and boot lid. I don't know the weights, but the Seibon carbon doors and boot lid are considerably lighter than stock even with the stock glass & spoiler fitted. JustGav
If it is a daily driver, you will struggle to shed real weight without loosing a lot of comforts. Things such as aircon, heater matrix, back seats, trim panels will all contribute but not as much as people think.

bodilx6
Check this out: http://www.suprahardtopregistry.com/ Sadly their excellent weight saving calculator had gone dead. that was really a great tool. Has anyone seen it anywhere else? But yeah, as mention if its a DD, you probably won't get to the real good stuff need to make a difference without too much of a sacrifice. You can, though, move the battery to the back for better weight distribution and go for some really expesive light weight wheels for that unsprung weight saving. Look out for aftermarked carbon brakes as well if you are really wacko Also, your exhaust can be a place to save weight, depending on what you have now. Cats also a good place to look. Stock twins are heavy as well. Rear hatch can be switched with some carbon and even lexan window(s). Get rid of your antenna and rear wiper assembly. Ditch what you can from any ICE installations (hopfully this has been done ) Edited September 16, 2009 by bodilx6 (see edit history)
j_jza80
Stock twins are heavy as well. I think what he's trying to say is that if you're trying to make your Supra faster, have an NA conversion done
paul mac
the problem with weight saving i feel is its all or nothing, you either put your car on an extreme diet or not, the half measures inbetween are really not noticable, you will only get noticable performance increases once you are dropping something like a 100kg + from the car which unfortunately takes a lot of comittment
tbourner
Get underneath and drill random holes in the chassis. (Don't listen to me.)
Chris Wilson
If you don't mind a BIG increase in the risk of side impact injuries lightweight doors with fixed glass or acrylic will shed oodles of weight. Removing all the ABS, heating and air con stuff with all the electric gadgets and speakers and radio are probably the next big weight saving. Stock bonnet and wings are very light, lighter than many "carbon" bonnets. I can get Supra doors done in vacced carbon, like my Skyline ones, but the price for the first pair will be frightening. Mine were the second pair and someone else absorbed the pattern making and mould costs
johnny g
Why not read Ryan G's track-car thread and see what he's done?

devan
Ive removed the top part of the rear seats. Its only held in place with 4 screws, and weighs quite a lot. And because its only the top bit ive removed, i can still have passengers in the back, just might be a bit uncomfy with no where to lean their backs. You could always make a new upright piece that is fixed in place and lighter?
devan
Yeah that would be good because anything in the boot can now roll into the back seat area.
