JohnK
I have an IBM X20 laptop which has a power issue. When I insert the power cord the orange battery +, green cresent moon and the above keyboard light, light up for a split second then nothing. No other lights to indicate charging wont power on, dead as a dodo. Ive tried a different PSU with the same results. Any ideas?
JustGav
Try a different battery, it could be dead, and not hold any charge..
JohnK
I dont think its that as I should be able to use it on ac power without the battery installed
Whitesupraboy2
sounds like a dodgey connection. My dads Laptop just come back from new motherboard coz of this. When plugging Power in, hold it still and do not let go,see if lights stay on whilst your holding making a connection...then let go, do the lights now go off? JohnK
I dont think its a dodgy connection, more like it senses something it doesnt like. Ive had it apart and can see no obvious dry joints or burnt tracks near the power socket. I cant help feeling its something simple, but im stumped. Whitelightning
Theres a sister board on the motherboard that controls the power metering and flow of amps to the board. Its could be broken or malfunctioning. I had a similar issue with a Dell, which they replaced the motherbord to fix.
SUPRALOOPY
sounds silly but is there a reset button on the side? i had this with and old lap top that a friend had and he was told the hdd was dead. but i pressed and held the button in for a while and all was well?? probably not that as you have had the thing to bits already. Todd
Hold it above your head and shake it and it should work fine after that Sorry, Dilbert joke Can you get access to a charged battery, at least that way you can rule out that it's just the connection and not the laptop!
