Ian R
I am at the end of my mobile broadband contract, so I am looking for a new landline BB contract. I am not in an LLU network and looking for a upto 8 meg download speeds as my phoneline will only support upto 6.2 meg on the exchange at the moment. As I am with sky the best deal I can find at the moment is £17 month for 8 meg unlimited downloads. A maximum 12 month contract would be prefered. Was hoping to pay upto £15 with no less than 30 gig download limit. Any suggestions ???
Pete
Cable....but you can't get that IIRC so that's a shame.

edge
I use the utility warehouse https://www.utilitywarehouse.co.uk/Home/broadcall/ althought the internet connections seems reliable the phone line seems poor at times and have to redial but it may be my phone
AlexM
I'd go for entanet through one of their resellers, such as ADSL24 - found the service and support to be very good. The 'Home 30' package is the one I found to be most suitable for me.

I have had 10mb, 20mb and 50mb and each time have maxed out the speed on newsgroups. There is a massive difference between the fiber optic cable broadband and the ADSL phone line service's they offer. Its 2 completely different services with different customer service etc. They have been crap since day one (the .net or ADSL folks)

Scott
I know very very few people paying for "up to" 8mb broadband that get any more than 5. At least virgin were honest lol. Try speedtest.net to see what you are getting. Make sure all downloads are off etc.
AlexM
Very pricey that mob. Only 30gb downloads too? I thought everywhere would be unlimited by now. £18.90/month with a 1 month contract, 30gb peak and unlimited off peak usage and a static IP from a good provider with good service.. that's hardly expensive. You may be spoilt with cable, but it's not an option for all of us.

clarky666
BE* It aint cheap but i'm a believer that if you pay peanuts you more often than not get monkeys. They are £21 a month for a 24mb max connection and i've been with for over two years and think i've had downtime of around about 90 mins and that was for local exchange work at the small hours which is nothing. No limits on downloads and more importantly no capping or throttling ports for torrents or news groups. Regularly hit about 18mb/s downloading at full tilt and online gaming on the PC and Xbox Live! runs brilliantly.

Sounds like you must be close to the exchange though.
