Pixelfill
Is it a modern laptop? I'm thinking I might not be having the trouble as my laptop is designed for it? Saying that my desktop PC is fine. Laptop is just pre-Vista, shipped with free upgrade to Vista at the time. To be fair the only drivers with an issue are the sound card drivers, the main issue was trying to connect to the Windows Home Server which doesn't fully support 64bit backups. Pixelfill
Connexant High Definition Audio (at least that's the 32bit driver that works ) Mike
Homer
Thinking about buying this as mycurrent XP OS hasn't been reinstalled for 4 years, but not sure whether to go for 32 or 64 bit version. The system is fairly high spec, but lacks RAM (2GB), it's only used for the internet and for high end games. What would the experts recommend. Is it worth going for 64 bit if it's only demanding task is games?
Scott
How long do they reckon 7 will be the top MS OS for? I would go with 64 as long as its compatible. I would get a trial first Darryl, before spending the money If all the drivers are sound then i would definitely go with the more futureproof 64bit version. Afterall it may outlive your current PC spec, probably will in fact. If you have hassles with the trial i would go with x86 though.

Homer
Try this: http://www.ubuntu.com/ I have ubuntu dual booted but it doesn't run very well with a lot of the recent games (and some older ones), it'd either cr*p out or have degraded performance compared to XP. I love it as an OS but doesn't doesn't work for me as a games platform. Shame really.

While I can get Fallout 3 to run in Linux I had to jump through flaming hoops just to get an adequate experience. That's why I still have a dual-boot system too. Windows for games and my GPS watch software. Linux for everything else. Keep us posted on the 64-bit Win 7. I'm looking at that so I'll use you as a guinea pig. Not all that good though. I have the full version as per their thank-you giveaway last year and I still play games via Windows. Says it all. imi
http://www.pcworld.com/article/182080/windows_7_inspired_by_mac_heres_the_guy_who_said_so.html?tk=nl_dnx_t_crawl I have installed win7 64bit in a VM machine on my MAC. Been 2 weeks and it compares well to winXP. Speed wise it might be slightly faster, certainly a match to XP in regards to stability. Managed to finally disable the toolbar from loading up so works well within Fusion.
