Ark
My car's had an RPS clutch on it for a number of years, and I reckon it has never been releasing properly - first and second are a pig to select and often cause the whole drive-train to clonk if selected when stationary. So I've just adjusted the pushrod free-play to within workshop manual tolerances, but now the clutch system squeaks on actuation where it never did before. Anyone heard of this happening, or why? Thanks.
bromy
My RPS is a pig to engage 1st and reverse at times and I also have the squeaky pedal.

pistonbroke
This is purely guess work, and without seeing the car, I'd have no way of really knowing. But I'd thought I'd share my thoughts with what it could be. By adjusting the clutch pedal, you've more than likely lengthened the shaft on the top of the pedal to disengage the clutch more. The squeak you are hearing is probably something simple like the linkage through to the cylinder. (does the squeak sound like it's inside the car? ) As above, get some lube on the linkage area and see if it cures it.
Ark
Thanks for the thoughts so far. Everything looks well lubed up near the pedals. The creaking/squeaking sounds more like it's outside, so it's probably on the clutch assembly side, rather than the pedal side. I wound the push rod out of the bit that holds it to the pedal, to close up the slack in the cylinder. After making my first post on this, I wound it back a little and the creaking lessened off. At least the gearstick slots first and second a little more politely now! Still wondering why a little pushrod play stops the shole system from creaking though. pistonbroke
When you're adjusting the rod on the pedal, are you not also affecting the release bearing position on the input shaft (I think that's what it's called), it may be that the shaft is a bit dry on the point where the new adjustment makes it sit. Kirk
open up the inspection plate chris and spray WD40 on the shaft and selector fork which engages and disengages the clutch and see if it stops it... did this recently on another member 5speed and it cured the creaky door squeak on the pedal Edited September 13, 2009 by Kirk (see edit history)
