Guest GTS94
Removed the TPS sensor lately to polish/clean the throttle and once i put it back on the supra it idles all over the place. When i start the car it idles between 1200rpm and 2000rpm and if i rev the engine it will raise the idle to 2500rpm or so like the throttle is stuck open. I have loosened the 2 screws on the TPS and rotated it ever so slightly about 30 or so times trying to adjust it but nothing seems to work, the start up idle speed will change but when i give the engine a quick rev it still sticks at 2500rpm like its stuck open? My question is, do i deffinatly have a problem with the TPS or is it something else like a vacuum leak somewhere in the intake manifold? Its on a 93 j-spec N/A supra btw. Thanks in advance! supspower
My guess is you put the TPS back on wrong, needs to go on at a certain degree then twist it round so the holes line up to then screw it in if i remember rightly. Cant remember exactly how to do it im sure someone with a more technical brain will be able to explain in more detail.
movistar
Did you take the throttle body right off? if so how is the gasket between the plenum and the throttle body....maybe there is a split causing an air leak? Have a spray round the throttle body area with some brake cleaner or wd40 while the engine is running to see if the engine rpm changes...this will help you detect it. Guest GTS94
Took off the throttle body and Y piece. The gaskets were metal and looked fine with no cracks or splits. i gave them a good clean with carb cleaner and put it all back togeather good and tight. What will spraying wd40/brake cleaner do? Temporary seal? I can adjust the start up idle slightly (Between 1000rpm and 2000rpm) but the main problem that, as said before when i rev the engine the revs go up ok but when they come down again it idles at 2500rpm and wont come down. I put the TPS back on a few different ways and adjusted its rotation every possibe way. but still no real difference apart from a change in start up idle. Thanks again for the help guys!!!!! The TPS sensor needs to be re-calibrated with a multimeter. Here are the instructions. http://img9.imageshack.us/img9/7826/img0811o.th.jpg Edited September 11, 2009 by Kite (see edit history)
