Jake
But they won't install a new box at your house without a phoneline. True, but it doesn't have to be connected all the time, only when they first set up a new box. As long as you have a 1 phone line that's enough for them to setup a box, it doesn't matter if the new box is at the farthest point of the house from the phone point, so long as a cable can reach between the two while the is configured. It doesn't matter if you have to disconnect one box to plug another in for set-up. Like I said, none of our boxes have been connected to a phone line since the day they were installed and they all work fine.
RobD
Tbh i'm just glad I didnt have to pay out anymore than just the HD installation, Although a 2mb wired connection to the ps3 wouldve been awesome
Homer
As Jake says, you don''t need a phone line pugged in for either to work. I have a Sky and Virgin digiboxes (virgin box is free with the broadband so used it in upstairs), both pugged into a Virgin cable phone line. They don't mind being unplugged from the phone line for any length of time.
RobD
Thanks for all the info guys, I dont have luck when it comes to having things installed , most times something goes wrong! Meko
You don't have to have ANY phone line for the Sky/Sky+/SkyHD boxes to work. I've got three Sky boxes in my house and none of them have been plugged into a phone line since the day they were installed. are they all on seperate contracts? if you have multiroom and don't have them plugged in they'll send you letters telling you to plug it in and do a manual check update. If you don't do it they'll charge you the full rate for all the boxes, they've done it to me a few times. As already mentioned it's so they know all the boxes are at the same house and you haven't taken out multiroom and then shipped a box to your mates house
merckx
if you have multiroom and don't have them plugged in they'll send you letters telling you to plug it in and do a manual check update. I've had a letter too but that was a couple of years ago. The box in my bedroom hasn't had a telephone line connected for the last year or so and Sky haven't done anything. Meko
they never used to do anything to me but then they decided they were going to. i ended up getting billed £130+ two month on the trot before i realised and connected them up to the phone line.
