My new toy

I did say I'd post some pics when I got it - so here they are. :)

First impressions :

Good points

Best of both worlds - it's very quick, but around town even my grandmother could drive it. And she's dead.

Handling is impressive - not really pushed it much yet, but did go fairly quickly around a roundabout today and I was impressed at how poised it was.

On a private track today, it did reach 160mph in no time at all - with a gear left.

Bad points

The fuel tank capacity is a joke. From warning light on to totally full - £50 of super unleaded. Are you kidding?

The rate at which the fuel gauge is dropping - and the fact that you can display average fuel consumption. On a long journey, it's 20+mpg. On a twisty road it was..... 11.6.

Brakes are less impressive than I expected - I reckon the 964 ones are better.

For pure fun factor - the 964 blows it away. I get the impression I could floor it part way round a bend, and the computer will make sure I get round anyway (although I haven't tried switching it off yet.....).

Summary

Despite the bad points - it does make an excellent daily driver and I'm currently very happy with it.

Looks even better in those pics. You're right about the handling though, I've said it before, it feels very sterile (compared to the Supra), it takes some provoking to get out of shape.

I was impressed with the brakes on mine, a heap better than the UK Spec Supra brakes with 3G discs, hawk pads, goodrich lines & SRF fluid. The PSM can keep it poised braking under the most difficult conditions.

I like the way you check the oil, not with a dipstick, the computer checks it for you :)

I think "sterile" is the best description. As a daily car, it suits what I want. However - if it was my weekend car (and was replacing the 964) it wouldn't be what I wanted at all - it would have to be a 993TT (or a 964 turbo, if I could find a black RHD 3.6 - which is unlikely).

Not usually a fan of the 993 (I think it's the headlights), like yourself I'm a huge fan of the 964 (and also the 997). However it does look really nice in that colour, I reckon a change of wheels would do it the world of good and would make it a lot more menacing if you're that way inclined, but I guess you probably want to leave it looking standard if it's your daily driver.

Either way, nice motor :)

It suits what I use mine for too, a secondary posing car, which hardly gets thrashed. I need a single Supra for thrills, a stock 996TT couldn't fill that gap, it's too refined.

Then again, get the new 760bhp kit BoostLogic have released and it might be a different story :D
