jackso11
Am I right in thinking that when an FMIC is fitted the air filter is removed totally? Sorry, must be a dumb question but I have no experience with FMIC or air filter systems, just seen a picture and it seems to have been removed. I am ready for a roasting asking a question like that...
jimojameso
Nope you still need an air filter mate
nevins
you would be wrong in thinking that mate, check out some images of engines and you will be able to see how it is set up
Jamesy W
Do you mean the stock one? If so then yes. I'm sure most have to be replaced with aftermarket for clearance issues
jackso11
can you still use the stock airfilter? as it seems to be the best in most peoples opinion
jackso11
ahh. Any opinions on good ones? as the stock is best

DaveR
i have a hks mushroom but aint happy with it as alot of people will agree they aint the best for the car What's wrong with the HKS? Alright it's a bit ugly, but it seems ok to me...
nevins
with the stock box and a upgrade panel the car seemed to pick up quicker where as with my hks it now seems to hesitate slightly.
hoff
Keeping the air box depends on the pipework of the FMIC. For example Micheal and magictorch were able to their air boxes. I dont remember of the top of my head which FMIC they have but top end. I have a an XSPower (dont start:d) FMIC. The pipework supplied with it meant I couldn't keep my stock air box so have an a HKS pipe/elbow connected to a K&N cone filter.
jackso11
K&N anygood?
Scoboblio
I had a greddy 2 row FMIC on mine, the pipework didn't interfere with the stock airbox. Not that I'd bother with a FMIC again unless I absolutely needed to.
nigelboyne
not sure if this helps but i went for hks type r fmic it made a huge difference to the car the car will make around 8bhp more with the standard box removed and hks racing induction system but the sound was horrible. have the standard box on with kn drop in filter
mikeyb10supra
I kept the stock airbox with my blitz FMIC....pipework needed a bit off jiggling around to get it all to fit though
magictorch
I kept the stock airbox with my blitz FMIC....pipework needed a bit off jiggling around to get it all to fit though Greddy 3 row here but as above the pipes need a bit of jiggling:) What make of fmic are you going for? MrRalphMan
What spec is your car as you might be better off getting an uprated, or god forbid new, SMIC. Thus keeping the Standard Air box.
Ian C
What's wrong with the HKS? Alright it's a bit ugly, but it seems ok to me... It doesn't actually filter. K&N anygood? Yes, and that's from personal experience of using one for about 4 years. My turbo compressor blades look like new, and when I recently cleaned the K&N in the sink, my word, the crap that came out! A whole sinkful of water went black... -Ian
