Mock muggings should be staged across the UK to test the public's willingness to aid victims and report crimes, a charity has said.

The group Witness Confident says it wants to challenge a "walk-on-by" culture to street crime.

"Don't be a have-a-go-hero unless you really know what you are doing"

Expect reports of mock muggers being put in hospital and people who know what they are doing getting into trouble.

I got within a day of going to court after helping some dozy Bobby arrest a car thief in Manchester, plus a ruined pair of trousers and a jacket. Doubt I'd get involved again without very good cause, or being very sure I could bugger off into the ether without any awkward questions or statements. Sad, but that's the UK justice system 2009.
