tony tt
Hi i recently got an online quote for a 03 M3 i cant remember the name of the companys but the cheapest quote i got was £860 fully comp but the excess was £3000 is that normal? It will be my first policy in my own name as my supe is in my dads name and im a named driver on the policy. Im 32 been on company insurance for 13years without a claim and on my dads policy for 2 years i dont get why the excess is so high! Is it because its an online quote do you think it would be different if i actually called them? Thanks.
tomgeer
sounds wrong to me, maybe they meant 300, excess is usually set between £150 and £

I am in a very similar position as I have been a company car driver for 9 years and any NCB I had is now void as I haven't had my own policy for so long. I am 34 in a bad post code for car thefts and my quote came out at over £1200 with around a £1000 excess. Better to speak to them in person as I don't trust the on line systems as far as they can throw them.... H.
Kirk
didnt think be all that bad where you are compared to me although saying that i once got a quote for an NA of £6000 and £2000 excess
Havard
didnt think be all that bad where you are compared to me although saying that i once got a quote for an NA of £6000 and £2000 excess It's because I am so close to the M61 and it's a direct route back back to Salford and all the scallies there..!! *Note: I am not saying that Salford has a lot of scallies. I am actually saying that they are all scallies, even the old ladies would knick your fillings if you laughed loud enough..* H.
tomgeer
Jesus. I never knew excess's go that high. I knew there must be some advantages to being a hillbilly out in the sticks.

The Restorer
I went through this last month on my car. All the cheapest policies I found had this high level of excess and the insurance would have been with a company called Excess Direct. I used them on the Supra in Ireland on the premise that if I hit somebody, it's my fault I lose the excess. If someone hits me I'll claim it back. My car was written off in a hit and run. Doh! Direct Line were competitive for me, however in the end I went through a broker for the best deal. PM me if you want details.
tony tt
I used that go compare site online and the first 9 companies had the 3k excess the further i went down it said contact them about it. I hope its a misprint on the quote all 9 of them haha
AlexM
I did an online quote for an E46 M3 and the cheapest was about £2,000 (with a reasonable excess), pricey motors to insure!

Havard
They are mate i was quite surprised at it! I got a quote for a 1999, 911 Turbo (£30K) against a 2002 M3 (£15K). The Porsche was the cheaper to insure even though the value was double.... The Porker came out at 1100 and the M3 was over 1200. Both were insistant that the car had to be garaged too. H. Havard
I dont get why there so expensive to insure at all. It's because they are usually driven by drug dealers and complete penis's (or peni)... H.

RobD
I would imagine it would be expensive to run a M3 , esp if anything major goes wrong, I'd think about it carefully bud!
ozz
I think inspection 1s are £500 and insp 2 is £1200 for the M3. Spend some time on http://www.bimmerforums.co.uk if you are serious about an m3 as there are a number of things that go wrong on them and the costs are significant. A lot of people on the forum suggest sticking with dealers for them as the risk with private is high. I wanted the m3 but couldn't justify the running costs with my job not certain so I picked up a 54plate 330ci sport on the weekend. Awesome car for the money, so many extras but not got the power my zed had. Not bad though, 231bhp.

The Restorer
Do you know the servicing costs mate just out of interest? Fixed price Inspection 2 was £800 add another £400 for little jobs. 19" tyres at just over £150 each. Warranty at £950 a year (under 60k miles otherwise it goes up to £2200). Insurance, I've managed to get it down to £1180, was paying under £800 on the Supra 4 years ago. New pads at the stealers for £500. Cheaper on petrol though. I've had new rear shocks (warranty), parking sensor (warranty), front mounts (warranty), bushes, new boots all round, tracking this year under general maintenance. Just about to renew the warranty as well now. Damn expensive to run. If you don't need the extra rear or boot space I'd recommend sticking with a Supra!
