TrickTT
Best price i have seen for it is around £1600 for a week long course for the cpc only. You also have to do an extended written driving test, and get a digital tacho card, before you can start it. They have also made the hgv driving test much harder starting from the 10th. Rough cost of going from a car licence to a class 1 is minimum £5000 and 2 years. You have to redo the cpc every 5 years, although most firms will pay for you to do it, 1 day per year. I get to start mine next month. How I have managed driving artics for the last 16 years without it is beyond me
Guest suprabass
guessing your talking about the new drivers cpc which comes in from tomorrow? Are you just learning to drive a lorry or do you drive already? And trickTT your a sort of right? The driver cpc (or Periodic training) is you must have 35 hrs covered in 5 years time (sep 2014) or you can't drive professionally (earn money) Then you will receive a drivers qualification card DQC this will be issued by the DVLA , you can do this training as 7 hrs per year which is 1 day a year eg a saturday which saves you taking a day out of work which most employers want staff to do. Im teaching the cpc 7hr courses for £80 +vat per course per person or if you add it all up £400 +Vat for the full five days 35hrs AND THERE IS NO TESTS and you dont have to have digi tacho card whoever has told you this is very misimformed. Now if you are learning to drive cat C and C+E from the 10th sep yes the test is different but no harder. You have 4 parts/modules 1.Threoy test (and hazard perception) 2.CPC case study (which is done in the threoy test centre which is touch screen no writing) 3. Driving Test 4.Show me tell me test (which is a 30min test on showing things on the vehicle you are driving eg how to secure loads etc) . Other thing is the cost.. who told you it would cost £5000 and take two years is having a laugh or wanting to rob you blind. I could do both parts for ALOT less than that and in about could all be done within 2 months. It not that hard there is so many scare stories going about and half of them a complete crap. Ill be running courses in all over the UK as i have a base in Grantham, Edinburgh and London also have a mobile training classroom that can be taking on site anywere carrying out CPC
TrickTT
I've been driving for years, I was just basing my figures for the cpc on what we have been told by our driving assessor at work. Little num is talking about the new driver cpc though. If you can do the cpc for £400+vat, then fair enough, but dont you still have to take driving lessons, then the cat c test, then more lessons, then take the c+e test later? Guest suprabass
The driver cpc is just the name that covers everything, You will be doing periodic training as will everybody who "drives professionally" (earns money from driving anything 3.5ton upwards including van drivers) which is the 7hrs every year for the rest of your driving life (35hrs complete every 5 years). What little num is talking about is the inital CPC part of it when you are learning to drive which is part of the process as of today 10th sep. If he wants to drive and make money from it he must complete all 4 steps i said above to gain his Cat C then he just has to do his driving test with the trailer to gain his Cat C+E. Yes there will be driving lessons involved but then its down to how good a driver you are how many lessons it will take, the way i usually work it is 4 days training and test on the 5th.
