michael
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/8243226.stm Obviously bad news for people working in their respective retail outlets and offices as jobs get merged to improve efficiency but is this a good thing for customers? I've been with T-Mobile for a few years after being with 02 for about 12 years and really like their offerings but I think a merger with Orange should be a good thing. Hopefully free voicemail for starters and better T-Mobile coverage in the south / remote areas. A shame both companies suck at getting software updates for buggy phones out though, maybe 2 sucky companies combined will create one that actually fixes bugs when people report them? Thorin
It's certainly a good thing from a coverage point of view. 3G coverage is still pretty crap in this country and with everything moving towards being always online T-Orange looks like it will become the best option. probrox
I'm just hoping the signal improves for T-mobile customers. I was going to cancel my contract with them this week until I heard the news. The tarif i'm on is perfect for me, but I can only barely get a signal at home and have nothing at all at work. caseys
Think it'll be bad from a competition viewpoint. I think the profits have been driven down over the years and there's less of a margin anyway (compared to say 5-7 years ago what you got on a contract). Yes they'll save infrastructure and HR costs but I doubt any of that will pass onto customers, probably just shareholders. I don't think Orange will move away from their bespoke running firmware (only feature I ever found useful off them was the Line 2 feature). Primarily the reason I moved away from them after 7 odd years. Good customer service, good network service, absolute toss on the handsets and getting anything decent to market in a good time. That and they got rid of Wildfire which was awesome for it's day.
