hogmaw
Refering to the Turbin remark, I think you'll find that the officer in question was Sikh and not Muslim. Sikhs wear the Turbin What's a Turbin?

Were his examples accurate? I dont remember his exact quote, however when I heard it live I found it not just inaccurate but laughable; however, what was really sad to see what the minor applause he got for spouting out that rubbish - which is why he probably does it. imi
'I believe that a faith which puts half the population, the women, down as inferior to men, I dont personally believe Islam does that. There are several quotes from the Quran that push forward the equality of both sexes (much more so that the monolithic religions prior to Islam inc Christianity - which supposedly this country is still based on). a faith which bans freedom of speech, Again, I see no evidence that the FAITH, ISLAM bans freedom of speech however if he was referring to specific countries - then he would have a point - but he needs to differentiate between Islam and the practices of some people / countries today. a faith which stones rape victims to death, I believe that is vicious and wicked. Again, sounds bites off the back of a leaflet as far as I am concerned.

Most extremists may believe in the practices above but again only in certain countries. U will find hardly any new generation muslims born in this country that share the above practices because they share a british culture and have adapted to society. imi
why didnt they challenge the homophobic opinions of the muslim chick on the panel? thought they did - she gave a clear answer, i remember she said that she had no issue if two people gay or lesbian wanted to be in a civil partnership. It was NG who had a serious issue with Gays / lesbians and also with mixed marriages amongst others.
