Matt H
I'd say it was ethnicity. Yes, but the key player under that umbrella is religion. I'm quite happy to have varied cultures here. Brillaint, all for that, but when people believe different things; strongly for that matter, in such a way those differences are uncompatible, then there's not much hope for unity. Abz
Some very stupid misinformed people on this thread. These muslins/ethnics many of you speak of - do you know any of them or are you speaking of them from statistics and news paper articles? I bet my life savings its the latter. Hence the already foolish confusion of sikhs and muslims already in this thread. Bravo!

Jake
I'm hoping the BBC do a Nick Griffin episode of "Who Do You Think You Are?" That would be excellent if they could find a non-Brit ancestor of his. He'd have to resign immediately - or have one his "I've changed my mind on that one" moments. ozz
it would be such a better place if man never created god. I like that, quite profound. Althought an agnostic myself, I envy some people's ability to have faith so the God idea serves a purpose there. I'd like to have faith, either in humanity or God but I have neither. imi
Feel free. I did not say close down Mosques or other religions should not be allowed - i think you'll find there is a difference. Britain is a Christian country, the same as Iraq is an Islamic country. out of interest what proportion of britians population visits a church on a regular basis....... We say that we are a Christian country and yet we don't really live in a true Christian way. The intolerance that I witness, the growing popularity of the bnp, hatred against people of a different colour, caste religion is not very Christian. That panoram program that j linked to puts things into perspective. I have experienced it 1st hand too. So let's think about what we mean by christian first before touting out some rubbish in the name of religion - yet again I'll bet there are more Mosques here than there are churches in all the Muslim countries put together!!!! What is the true Christian way? I pretty much think it changes to suit the times. Interpretation I think they call it.
martini
I think we should say we are a scientific country that believes it took longer than 6 days to make the Earth. However, science is really a religion of sorts, merely under the guise of well, science! People still 'believe' in things that are 'proven' to be true, but we don't really know anything in the grand scheme of things. If it weren't for humans, no other animal species would even be aware of their existence to such a level or document it in any way. But then, we always ask "what is the meaning of life" to be told by science that there is no meaning. It's not surprising that people turn back to religion for comfort. Religion is only a problem when people get killed over beliefs. Everyone should be allowed to believe in whatever they like, but it is not necessary to hurt other people. Very good Also, there's democracy and there's free-speech fundamentalism. We have the former, but not the latter; and when you think about what that would actually entail, I'm very happy that this is the case. Messages are censored in advertising if they could be misleading (and that's not necessarily even outright lying, as per the probiotic yoghurt ads that were recently banned; but then again a free speech fundamentalist approach should say that lying is fine because it can simply be countered with more free speech). And even commonplace speech itself is curtalied if it incites hatred and violence. You might say that this is different because of the possible outcomes, but it is still a restriction that is placed on what can be stated in this country (that is, the words that I can walk into the street and speak) and one that is pretty much unquestionably accepted.
