michael
Ah right, no it's obviously the cannabis then. Drugs are bad. Expect a ban on drugs soon. Or maybe video games... or all films... or TV... or music... I blame Marilyn Manson. hQBOhdb_5n4 BTW, it's nice to have music videos back on Youtube. Paul
Kids test limits as a part of growing up, if they don't have any limits set for them they WILL go to these extremes. Exactly, it's all about what happens to them if they cross that line, you need a strong deterant. It's all gone wrong and coming back to bite us now
tbourner
Part of the obstacle of going back to how things were is that there will be some kids who will be in a worse situation if corporal punishment were brought back (e.g. a minority of teachers abusing their powers). These "worse-offs" seem to have a veto on any change that could be brought about, which is a shame. Yes, there will always be rogue people in society who abuse their rights and powers, but by pulling all the teeth out of the laws in an effort to protect people against those rogue elements, the vast majority of people suffer. So we need cameras everywhere to keep an eye on the rogues? Maybe just give the headteacher that power, so the normal teachers saying "Go to the headmasters office" really would be more of a threat - then just check up on the headteacher? How about head mount cameras for every police officer? Make sure they're not abusing their new powers of beating the crap out of scrotes? I understand that you have to give in to the lowest common denominator, but surely with modern technology as it is we can lower the standard deviation a bit and increase the overall powers of our authority figures? R Black
Im sure i read somewhere that the UK has more surveillance than nearly anywhere else already, does'nt seen to be doing any good. **fig 1**Putting people/kids in the equivalent of an old Butlins camp is never going to work.** I have to work 5 days a week, pay my bills, and turn the other other cheek when anyone does anything unsociable around me, i can't react because its not PC, so let the law deal with it, if they see fit to bother (at best see fig 1) Urchin gets put inside, learns a new trade i.e. lock picking/card cloning basics, gets tough, trains in the gym watches tv, in some cases plays vid games, hell while im here i'll have my teeth sorted and this birthmark removed. What im getting at is, there is NO incentive to conform, if conforming is harder than the punishment is there?
RiceRocket
Im sure i read somewhere that the UK has more surveillance than nearly anywhere else already, does'nt seen to be doing any good. Yep that's right, the UK has less than 1% of the world population but has 20% of the total cctv cameras.
AndrewOW
Yep that's right, the UK has less than 1% of the world population but has 20% of the total cctv cameras. So they can watch us misbehaving, but don't have the money or manpower to do anything about it! I'm sure it's better than watching most of the crap we get on tv nowadays, anyway! Personally, I want to see more upset and violent residents arguing over wheelie bin placements. I was hooked!
trinitom
the baseball taco is always in my car for this kind of situation! i don't mind expending a few weeks in prison if i have to break a leg or arm to someone!
legendswraith
On a further note perhaps we should bring more of the "tagging" into effect for offenders but with a running man twist, if they are out past their curfew or somewhere they shouldn't be then their head explodes. Axle
I witnessed something similar to this once. Sitting there eating my lovely family size box of KFC around a quiet corner, when 4 shlts set up some guy out of a white van for no apparent reason... I got out my car and started running towards the incident.. Man was i pissed off - I was hungry, and had two chicken legs remaining*, and secondly the morons made me run. Boy did they pay for that*. Supra-Brett
Blame the parnets ultimatley as those kids wouldnt be like that if they had good role models, then bring in a PROPER "several strikes and your out" policy. Basically commit more than a certain amount of crimes and the punishment rises exponentilly with each crime until you have committed enough crime to be sentanced to death and removed from the gene pool, something like this :- 1) 5 or more of any crime = The normal punishment for those crimes + 5years 2) 10 or more of any crime = The normal punishment for those crimes + 10years + castration/sterilisation so that these obviously unsuitable parents cannot corrupt another generation. 3) 15 or more of any crime = The normal punishment for those crime + 15 Years 4) more than 15 crimes = death. Say what you will about my obviously "right of every current political party viewpoint", but i think serious times need serious punishments.
