Guest NaspSupra
Hi everyone, im a newbie here and i've been trying to find articles on your site to answer my question but cant find anything. So please forgive me for jumping straight into a post I've got an na supra which im doing an NA-T conversion on. I've already replaced the manifold and downpipe with aftermarket stuff. I'd like to keep it from being 'too' loud but dont want to have any big restrictions in the exhaust. My question is, is there any difference between the standard NA exhaust and the standard TT exhaust? I was looking at the stock na system and from the looks of it the biggest restrictions are the manifold and the mid pipe as they both have the cats in them. The actual back box and silencers seems alright. But i've heard somewhere that the turbo version of the same exhaust has slightly bigger pipework? Could anyone clear this up for me please? and what kind of power can you run through the stock turbo exhaust before it becomes too restrictive to get any more power? Thanks Leo Edited September 4, 2009 by NaspSupra (see edit history)
pedrosixfour
NA exhaust is 2.5" and TT exhaust is 3" IIRC. BPU TT's run between 380-420 bhp with little more than a change in restrictor ring size in the exhaust system to control boost levels. So I assume similar levels are achievable with your build. However more upgrades are necessary elsewhere to achieve these levels. This is from a guy who hasn't really got a clue (content NA driver) so its advisable not to take what I just said as gospel as I know there is far more to it than that. Guest NaspSupra
I've since found the answer and it is....no...there are no differences between a standard turbo and non turbo exhaust. They are totally the same, the only difference is the manifold. From the back of the 1st cat they are identical. Got my info from http://www.toyodiy.com, just thought i'd share
Dazzi
Some TT's came with no silencer boxes on the 1-2 branch. Also Blitz sell an exhaust tip called the Nur Spec S. One is sold for the NA and the other for a TT because its slightly different at the backbox apparently.

The UK systems were also full stainless. However I think you will find the stock system too restrictive on an NA-T, they are restrictive at BPU power levels which is going to be getting on for what you're running on the NA-T. pedrosixfour
Ya see, I told ya there was more to it!
Chris Wilson
Some N/A's have stock cat back systems with smaller pipe diameters than the TT stock cat back systems. The back boxes also have more baffling on the N/A ones on some models. I cut one up to check as the N/A back box was noticeably heavier than a TT one. I love that attitude mate, this one feels heavier - let’s cut it up to see why. Totally a thing I'd do.
Guest NaspSupra
Ahhh right. I took the details from my SZ and popped it into EPC. This gave me the part number for my exhaust. I then looked up an RZ and found that the part number was the same. So i must have the lighter exhaust which is the same as a TT. I wouldnt mind getting hold of the non silenced mid pipes mentioned above...are they quite rare?
