For the RAF lot!

Not sure if there's any RAF guys on here, but I just thought I'd mention that I had my filter interview today and I got through! :D:d I'm now waiting for a date for OASC at Cranwell.

My aim is to become a Chinook Crewman, and after today I'm part way there! A huge sigh of relief to get through the first bit, I'm one step closer to realising my dream!

Well done mate. How long does the training take??

Cheers! :) Training could take anything upto 2 years! But that's from the very beginning. I just wanna get stuck in and start the next phase but it looks like i will be waiting a few months for a date to go to Cranwell.

You get treated like kings in the RAF compared to us Army lot

Fact :D

Congrats [COOL][/COOL], 2 of my mates are going through airman aircrew as we speak, but also another 3 failed selection :(

Having seen what the guys I work with go through Id deffo pick fixed wing over rotary any time!!

Selection looks really tough, looks like I have a fair bit of time to prepare though.

what makes you want to choose the Chinook Dan? - Just curious :)

I worked mostly with fixed wing for about 4 years, and although I enjoyed it, I really fancy the rotary positions. They tend to me more 'in the action' as it were. Ideally I'd like to work with 7 Sqdn at Odiham, they deal with all the special forces drops. That would be cool :D

well done and good luck mate.

Good luck chap - I'm at odiham with the chinooks :p - as a techie

Nice! Techie was my second choice, so if it doesn't work out I may be joining you! :D

I assume you're an Avionics tech? (With all your electronics experience on here!)

7 sqn is overratted ;) mate of mine is on there.. Yup - i'm avoinics but i dont work on aircraft ;)

Problem with crewman - and the selection process, based on how well you do on the courses etc... determines what you end up doing ;) so you could end up been a linguist or electronics/sensor operator on a sentry - having worked on one for 2 day - no thanks!

I've been through the selection process... so if i can help PM me.

Mate, that would be great! The more info I can get, the better! The one thing I have said from the start is that I most certainly do NOT want to be stuck on a Nimrod staring at a radar screen. If I do everything I can to be the best then I stand a good chance.

The talk on other military forums is that there is a push for Crewmen at the moment and not much demand for EW/ACO until the new MRA4 Nimrod comes into service.

What exactly do you do at Odiham?
