Glad to great it's started up mate, I'm sure you'll crack it

I think it's just mapping now mate. I'm sure Ryan will nail it straight away. He'd been mapping all day so as you can understand he was wazzed n just wanted to go to bed. Maybe should send him some of my special monster energy down lol. Seriously though I really do appreciate all his help, he doesn't have to help at 9pm on a night, but he does. Top bloke.

great news a bet it was low on fuel lol...

You and your bloody low fuel lol.

Bit of an update on this. The gearbox is now out so I can fit s new spigot bearing.

I had issues the other day which I thought was the rear crank seal. After removing the box I found it not to be so. After further investigation it seemed that the csm cover gasket on the exhaust side had diven up and was spewing oil down the back of the engine onto the box. I was sitting for about 3hrs with the car running on the drive the other day whilst I was playing with the map z little and the patch of oil was huge. Hard to imagine that all that oil came from a leaking cam cover.

Whilst the box is out in taking the opportunity to relocate the loom going in through the bulkhead. I've taken it out and found a nice location for it just under the plenum where it can't be seen.

I'm also going to remove some of the unwanted wiring from the loom but need to do a little research before I start chopping bits of loom away lol.

Now the car has no traction control but I have s TT manual loom, so in theory I could just cut all the wires that lead to thraction control ECU multiplug. Or does anyone know otherwise.

Blimy John, After getting the gearbox out it was the cam cover gasket..At least you found it mate and a simple job plus you have managed to do some Loom work too

Good you dont have traction control with the power your going to run, I used to forget to turn mine of sometimes right at the time i needed the power, Used to really pee me off. Since i have had the engine parts polished the track control light keeps flashing, I have not sorted as is handy that i dont have to turn the switch off now lol

The Syvecs will control the traction so that's not a problem. I just need some ABS hubs and were off.

looking good mate, was it hard to remove the box on your own?

After doing a five speed on my back i can tell you now getting the 6 speed out wont of been the easiest of tasks as its considerable larger!

10 points that man.

It is very tight, but with a wiggle and a pull out it came.. I'm not looking forward to putting it back in tomorrow though. Hope there's no kids in the street cos the obseen language coming from the garage will be legendary lol.

Cracked on with a few bits today.

Stripped the clutch off the car and fitted the spigot bearing into the crank. Tight little bugger it was. But with a wooden chock and a big hammer, in it went.

Next came the loom relocation.

I marked the chassis the same size as the existing hole in the bulkhead and cut out the hole. I then removed a section of sound deadening from the passenger footwell the same size as the hole I cut.

I fed the loom through hole and marked where the retaining holes went and drilled them out to 6mm.

A couple of nuts and bolts later and we have that ugly loom out of the engine bay.

Just to make sure there was no water or leaking I ran a bead of Sikaflex around welhere the loom housing touches the car and smoothed it off. Even though it had a good seal anyways I'm better safe than sorry.

Unfortunately myself and Ross couldn't get the gearbox in. The clutch is pretty big and balancing the back of the box on a jack wasn't the best idea I've ever had. So I'm going to need a few extra pairs of hands and just lift it in.

What did you use to align the clutch plate to the spigot bearing? You will need a proper alignment tool, or make one?

With my 5spd, I didnt have one so removed the bellhousing from the box, slid the clutch (unbolted) onto the shaft of the box, and slid it into the spigot bearing, then bolted the clutch up to ensure it was central. Bolted bellhousing back to the box and it went in no bother.

If you dont align it, you'll be on forever trying to get the box to mate up, probably knack the clutch doing so as well.

Jessey.

The spigot bearing is concentric to the centre of the crank/flywheel. As long as the splined on the clutch plate are lined up together the box will go on.

Do them multi plates not need aligning to the centre of the spigot aswell? Mine moved about a few mm's inside the pressure plate housing, was enough to stop it going in.

There a pretty good fit inside the flywheel posts there's nowhere near a MM play in it. All I did to line the 2 plates up was put a file in the splines and line the 1st plate up with the 2nd. It worked a treat when I put the box on the engine the 1st time. If it doesn't work I'll buy an alignment tool. They can't be that much.

Tonight after work I'm going to attempt this gearbox on my own. Michel Lane has kindly let me borrow a gearbox cradle which enables the box to br put in by 1 man. So let's give it a try lol. If all goes well with the box and I get everything back together I'll be stripping all the brakelines out for relocation too. But that's only if all goes according to plan.

I'll update tonight.
