hodge
like ive said all along, its all about the funds. I recon i could have the var finished in a couple of months if i wasnt on a budget. It just all depends if the funds are avaliable when i need the rest of the bits. hodge
Update time:d After my disaster the other day of snapping the bracket which hold the the foot brake in, things seem to be going according to plan again. I dropped keron a line and he had a bracket sent out to me straight away so I got that sorted yesterday and all fitted. I also got a new cover to go aroud the water pipes that go through the bulkhead as I wasnt keen on it after it was painted white. I also stripped the rear bumper and stock side trims off cos I ran out of things to do and was bored lol. This also may sound abit anal but the reaqr crash bar seemed a lottle rusty for some reason so I gave it a nice coat of black paint to sproose it up abit cos you can see it right Well if a jobs worth doing and all that. Today was an eventfull day also. I fitted all the wiring harnesses for the Defi gauges all ready to be plugged in. This was is a job in itself without trying to fit them without any of the wires being visable. I split the harnesses into 2 groups depending where I wanted the sendors to be located. So I put the Oil pressure, oil temp and EGT wires through the bulkhead where the drain for the A/C used to be. This is the same hole ive used to put the power cable through for the starter motor. Through the inner wing ive put water temp, boost and fuel pressure. Ive fitted the FPR into position. im waiting for a blank for 1 side so I can put an 1/8NPT thread in for the fuel pressure sensor hence why the sensor in wonky in the side of th FPR cos its just sitting in there. Kev dropped off my last dash panel last night s after I put the defi sensors in the back of the control unit I got that put in also. The dash looks great now its complete. TRD strut brace and TRD oil cap arrived today too. Ive test fitted the strut brace just to make sure all is ok, because I wasnt sure how high it was going to sit and if it will be high enough to go over my monster turbo. Heres some pics of my latest efforts (with a good camera lol). Tomorrows job. Im gona give the transmission another coat of underseal and again the OCD is kicking in but im gona clean all the rear of the car behind where the back bumper used to be and give it a polish so its nice and shiney white before I fit the new bumper. johnny g
Just awesome, John. You're working at a great rate - and it's going to be so worth it. I'm hoping to get over in the couple of weeks when the weather breaks, so I'll come over in the MR2 and go for a spin - and we can go for a bite with Jay. Guest Rays the roof
i dont think it matters anyway, i been looking at others pics of the strutbrace fitted and your definately is different... not picking holes john, loving this project. There are two designs of strut. They are idential except the punch locations on the top mean that the badge is fitted on the left on some and the right on others. Might be a Jap vs US manufacturing thing. All other dims are identical. PS glad the delivery arrived. 10 working days for a Parcel Force 48 delivery... hodge
Going out today to clean up the rear of the car where the back bumper was and underseal the transmission tunnel again. Well you can never have too much underseal LOL. I'm also gona push the car out the garage and remove the passanger skirt and rear wheelarch trim. This will be the car totally stripped ready for the kit to go on. Kenny.G is bringing me some nice stainless steel bolts over on Sunday too. So hopefully if I recieve my polished/chrome bits from ray by then I can get the master cylinder on and we can bleed all the brakes off.
hodge
PROBLEMS I've removed the passanger side skirt and when I removed the air duct i've found a massive patch of rust just under the duct which I'm gona have to repair. At 1 point it's actually made a hole. Am totally gutted. When I bought the car and checked it out it was for what I could see rust free. I suppose there's been water trapped behind there at some point and it's rotted it at there is no other rust on the car at all. I'll take some pics and post then up later on. I suppose it's better icmve found the rust now that in a couple of years when I went for mor and it's wrotted through the sill. I've also started cleaning up the back panel behind the front bumper with some G3. It's coming up like new. My jobs list seems to be getting crossed off very quickly. Just waiting for my bits from Ray.
nevins
does it look like much of a job to cut out the rot and replace the panel
hodge
I don't think so. Like I said I think I caught it in time. I've never done this sort of thing before so no idea where to start really.
nevins
How big is the patch and is it close to any seams or is it central to a panel
hodge
If you remove the plastic air duct it's just below the duct hole. It's nowhere near any seams. I recon if I cut it out it's gona be about 2 inches square. I thought of fibreglassing a plate to the back and them filling it.
nevins
The way I would do it would be cut it out and make a piece the size of the hole and weld it in place. Or you could cut it out and just patch over depending on what finish you want. Could you fit a grinder in at it.
hodge
I'm not bothered about the finish really because when the skirt goes on it's all gona be covered anyway. It's all for my own piece of mind really.
nevins
In that case cut it out and just weld a plate over it and scholtz it. Job done.
hodge
I couldn't live with myself just welding a plate on. Even though you can't see it I know it's there n everytime I get in the car I can see it in my mind LOL if you know what I mean. Oh and have you seen my welding it's absolutely shocking LOL.
