penguin
No your point was science doesn't prove anything, my point wasn't saying it was nonsense just that I'd rather believe something that allows for an open mind than something that is completely 'set' and closed to any changes - whether it's been correct so far or not. no, that was not my point, there are some things science has proved are black and white... on something - no. Again, i would ask you to read the Quran and make up your own mind on the so called "set/closed" mindset
tbourner
no, that was not my point, there are some things science has proved are black and white... on something - no. Actually there's no such thing as proof - it's only proven based on current understanding so if that understanding changes then the proof is wrong. Everything in science is a theory. Again, i would ask you to read the Quran and make up your own mind on the so called "set/closed" mindset I'd like to, it's just low on my priority list and I don't seem to have time to put it any further up. Are you saying some religions (particularly Muslim) allow for changes to their belief structure? Could they change their ideas behind creation if more evidence for some part of evolution came about that went against it?

tbourner
tell you what, how about you tell me what you know of islam to start with? that will be a good base for discussion. Nothing really. I assumed that it was the same as any other religion - ie 'God' created everyone and everything, we have to follow his teachings and believe in him or we go to hell, plus variations on that theme depending on the religion. Is this off topic? Should we start another thread (to get locked eventually no matter how nice we're all being)?
