tbourner
Another good point, If religion is going to be taught they should "give you samples" of each main religion so that you can pick whatever you like haha, Science and History are just one big Aethiesm lesson, so it's only fair the religions get a chance as well. Benyon
Science and History are just one big Aethiesm lesson, so it's only fair the religions get a chance as well. True true, Why does the word Aethiesm sound so religious whens its totally the opposite?
Jake
In schools they have changed our traditional nursery rhymes because apparently they affend poeple, such as bla bla black sheep, Humpty dumpty, Snow White and the seven dwarfs and more, Why should the country change our tarditional way

I know of people including myself who have had guns pointed at them not knowing weather its loaded or not and thats just in one place, I bet its like in other parts of england too. Animal
Science and History are just one big Aethiesm lesson, so it's only fair the religions get a chance as well. What a rediculous statement! Science and history are based on facts. Okay, history less so as it's easily corrupted to suit whatever views you want to put accross, but science is uncorruptable fact, you can't dispute it. You can't say "This is our theory of gravity, but if you go next door to Mr. Gullible's class, he'll teach you that it's really god's invisible hand pulling things down. It's not like kids are being taught the more esoteric (chaos & string) theories, it's basic principles that can be repeatedly proven. Religious studies should be an option and should inform kids about ALL religions, not just xtianity or islam. Children should not be brainwashed by these cults until they are old enough to make an informed choice on their own.

(or maybe 5:search:) http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=IBTL Unfortunately, these kind of 'debates' are well known to descend into a slanging match, so I just used the traditional 'in before the lock' abbreviation, albeit slightly prematurely. tbourner
Yeah, but he's a loony creationist. Anyway, you just said 'science', not evolutionary science. My point was exactly what you said anyway, I was making a comparative joke that science and (slightly less) history are factual, so are therefore teaching Aethiesm, Aethiesm is a kind of religious belief so it's discriminatory to give Aethiesm such a large run of schools where religion gets a very small segment. Obviously I wasn't being serious though, you're right religion should be a choice subject and science should be stated as known fact. Those children who's parents insist they are taught can be taugh BY their parents. This will help with family bonding too. Those children who aren't interested need not waste their time with it. Ian C
I'm think that religion should be presented in schools as a fact based subject with all the evidence (and I mean evidence, not an old book of cherry-picked tales that repeatedly contradict themselves) pointing towards a god given to the kids so they can make their own minds up. Unfortunately there is a major flaw in that plan
