CPU and PF Usage

Ok, my computer seems to be really slow at the moment. I thought i may have downloaded something by mistake but i cleaned the computer several times now and it's still slower than it used to be. Im a little worried about my CPU Usage as the majority of the time it's sat at 100% (although it's not too bad at this moment in time). My PF Usage is sat at 750mb which seems high. I also seem to have 42 Processes working. And body have any ideas on this stuff?? All i have open is one page of my Internet Explorer.

ok looks like u have a issue with Internet explorer. whilst internet explorer is doing something it is obviously effecting the system hence system going up. State the obvious he says :p

what i would do to test this is. install mozilla web browser. use it for a day and see if your computer still goes slow.

this is sign of spyware / virus infecting your internet explorer but not always sometimes a windows update can fix it...obviously rarely :p

Edit **

yes there are more technical ways of sorting it out. but this is quick and easy to test to see if internet explorer is your problem

Well remember 256meg is the minimum for running XP.. so 512 isnt that much better, youre HD will go nutz as the Operating system is caching all the stuff it would usually write to memory onto your hard disks, thus causing it to go slow and griiiiind.

Put a gig in it and you wont have a problem.

Bobbeh, you are right to a degree mate 512mb isnt much.

but my pc at home is only running 384Mb SD RAM (dont pick on me :innocent: )

and i run nero etc... and not once has my PC ground to halt on XP. there is no way Iexplorer should take up that amount of processing power unless you are doing something heavy in internet explorer like opening a very big visio file.

no probs mate, hope u sort it i know how annoying PC's can be

1) Get Adware, spybot or Pestpatrol and run a spyware check on your computer.

2) Also what antivirus do u use?. If u have one, run a virus check.

3) Go to start menu, programs, accessories, system tools and run disk cleanup. Select your C: drive from the list. This deletes all unneccessary temporary files and cookies from your computer

4) Go to start menu, programs, accessories, system tools and run disk defragmenter. Select your C: drive. This arranges all data in your drive so it helps programs run faster.

The extra memory would help sort the large page file.

The processing power eaten up is just something busy, like I said earlier might be a good idea to check for spyware, unless he was running something intensive like flash within the browser.
