Right I have been asked to document this process by Dan, So the first thing I did was forget to take my camera to work.

These are all taken on my N95 so sorry for the quality.

 

Ok to start, Dan drops this lot off.

The first thing I noticed was the fact that for the money there are NO fixing points so I will have to make all the fixings myself. This not only adds to cost but I believe should have been sorted out before these things go on sale. This all just IMO.

My next bugbare is Will peolpe please jack up cars on the jacking points!!! I saw this and just had to straighten the sill joins out.

Well as you can see its normal aftermarket bodykit fitment.

After a bit of messing around I got it fitting a bit beter but will need a bit more fettling.

I also cut all the holes and got the facelift indicators fitting nicely, again absolutly no holes or markers for drilling or cutting.

Well thats about all for today. I'll keep taking pics and update this thread as I progress. I hope it will give you an insight to the headache that bodykits are, even the genuine ones don't fit and need alot of time to get looking nice.

No its not genuine but Chris (supra-lovers) was and that did not fit for shit . That kit cost him almost 2K as well. So yes the stock look is good.

The reason was you said,

"even the genuine ones don't fit and need alot of time to get looking nice." which I (incorrectly :innocent:) assumed referred to this project.

It seems to me that due to the age of the Mk4, moulds have been cloned to death, so what we have left is n'th generation. Miles away from original castings.IMO, of course.

If you are inferring that I've spoilt it by adding a kit, fair enough. It's all down to personal preference though. Sure I love some stock bodied cars, but they need that something extra to make it work.

 

For example, jamieP's car is stock bodied, but the combination of advans, subtle rear diffuser, lip spoiler and stance, make the car what it is. Put his next to a totally stock car, and it makes the stock one look pants. There is also a pic of an american white one knocking about, with a set of wheels that are probably worth more than my entire car alone, sure it looks stunning, but you need touches like that to make them stand out from the crowd.

 

End of the day, it's all personal taste. I want something different. If you parked your stock UK spec next to MattH's, and left them there for a few hours, I guarentee it wouldn't be your stock one that gets any attention. And thats what I want, something that stands out, something that turns heads.

Biggest problem with a lot of these kitted cars is shit fitting, Dan wont have that problem, not sure how you are going to get it out of your garage with the new kit on though mate:search:

 

I like kitted cars and stock body cars, as Dan pointed out wheels have a huge impact, a kitted up car on a naff set of wheels will look shit but with the right wheels and stance can look evil.:cool:

As Dave has mentioned aftermarket bodykits are very often a very poor fit, ive fitted a fair few now and there is a hell of alot of man hours that go into it to make the kit fit properly. It took me alot of blood, sweat and tears to make ill fitting kits fit and make look half decent. But that said it is well worth it in the end, and i think the mixture of kit you have chosen dan will look spot on and I know dave will do you proud mate.

I agree with jamie iv seen alot of nice supras but they look crap due to rubbish wheels or crap stance. Even after I kitted my supra before I had the wheels fitted my best mate saw it and said it looked crap, after fitting my wheels and having the correct stance he now loves it alot:)
