Xbox360 RROD fix - this has worked for me

Am posting this as I know many people have had the RROD and how frustrating it is!!

Well, the day after this thread http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=195535 my 360 started up with the RROD!!! Had already 'fixed' it once when it was freezing up by taking it apart and adding some new thermal compound - obviously only a short term fix.

So I found this guide on net: http://www.instructables.com/id/Fix-the-Red-Ring-of-Deathwithout-towels/ and followed it to the letter - and to my utmost surprise, the bloody thing actually works :D:D:D Had it on for 4 hours last night and 2 this morning and the heatsinks are barely warm!!

Some additional comments:

1. I used Arctic Silver 5 thermal grease (£5 from Ebay) - heatsinks are considerably cooler than before

2. I bought 64 washers in case I needed more than 4 per heatsink screw

3. 12mm long screws are fine for GPU and 20mm long for CPU

4. be patient with tightening & loosening combinations of screws on the heatsinks - it does not work straight away

this may not work for everyone and I obviously don't know whether it's permanent, but it certainly works fine at the moment

Hope this may help others with this problem :)

I've got 2, I use one as a media player in the bedroom, if you have a telly in there, and stream stuff of course... It comes in great for those days when you just can't be bothered to get out of bed :)
