Ace
Following on from this thread, in which some of you kindly offered your moral support... http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=180548 ...I have finally been offered a job. After four months of hopeless searching and banging of head against wall, it is over at last. It is still within the transport/logistics industry; the difference in travel from my last job is negligible; and the difference in annual salary is minimal (under 1500 quid less p.a). The only downside is that it is a shift-pattern job - twelve hour shifts as follows: four AM shifts, then four days off, four PM shifts then eight days off. It'll take some getting used to, but it works out at just 36 hours per week, compared to 45 hours at my previous job. The relief is tangible - I never expected to feel so differently on receiving an offer of employment. Outburst of joy over

benkei
Excellent news dude. It may not be the best job in the world for you, but a job is a job at the minute, you can still keep your eyes open for other opportunities while earning some dollar

Paul
Well done mate, it must be a such a relief for you. I got made redundant last week after 6 years with the Company, part of a head count excercise as we were making a good profit and busy:( So it's the 4th time I've been in this situation, every job I've had has ended this way !! Maybe I stay too long at them? Anyway, enjoy what you've got left in time off and good luck with the new role

Abz
Congratulations, think its great these shift jobs... I am mean just because you work a 12hr shift they give you 8 days off! Plus you are working less hours so the 1.5k PA less is worth it, it would have been mainly tax you would have been paying anyway

Ace
Excellent news dude. It may not be the best job in the world for you, but a job is a job at the minute, you can still keep your eyes open for other opportunities while earning some dollar It isn't what I expected myself doing, but it is in the same industry I've been in for 10 years, so the knowledge base isn't completely wasted. I got made redundant last week after 6 years with the Company, part of a head count excercise as we were making a good profit and busy:( So it's the 4th time I've been in this situation, every job I've had has ended this way !! Maybe I stay too long at them? Anyway, enjoy what you've got left in time off and good luck with the new role Sorry to hear that - just got to keep at it and something turns up. I start next Tuesday - I've been out of work for four months, so my start date is actually something to look forward to. Congratulations, think its great these shift jobs... I am mean just because you work a 12hr shift they give you 8 days off! Plus you are working less hours so the 1.5k PA less is worth it, it would have been mainly tax you would have been paying anyway Exactly my thoughts - 9 hours a week less (on average) for 30 quid a week less. Not a bad compromise. Plus I will actually get paid for overtime, which wasn't the case at my last job. Well done, its tough out there at present, I work in a company that has been in Administration for 12 months, I go from month to month in a rolling contract but would take that any day over looking for a new job right now I agree - better to have any sort of job in this climate than none at all. As long as you still have an income, you can fight off the recession for that little bit longer. Congrats! On an hourly rate, you've had an increase. Am sure you can do odd bits to top up the money mate. Must be a huge relief. Relief doesn't even come close. The money will soon tot up, and as mentioned above, I get paid +50% for overtime, which I can do in the first few weeks under the guise of "learning the ropes a bit sooner".
