Kranz
Ok, there will be someone here that knows the answer to this I've just laid a 120mm deep 3 x 5 m concrete garage base to put a bolt together metal (Mechano?) garage on. The garage needs bolting into the concrete witj expanding anchors. How long should I leave it before drilling and fitting the anchors, and how long before tightening them up? Ta peeps! p.s. 3.5 Tons of concrete is a pain on your own with a knackered arm/shoulder lol
T2 MSW
when we did my mates we left it 24 hrs before drilling it and that was just about ok. Was not as deep as yours though Its hard work isnt it, I found it hard work with two of us so god knows how you managed it on your own. Matt H
28 days for the concrete to cure with expanding joints stuck. Concrete will get stronger and stronger after that. Having said that, you're only stickin up a light weight frame I quess so not to worry too much You should ensure that you joint is a suitable distance from the edge to in order to allow the load to be transfer down the concrete at a almost 45 degree angle

My theory is better go too much than too little.... I apply that to everything in life Hard work??? Yes! I think i sweated my own body weight out, and then leveling it is a real arm killer. And to think I'm going for 2 weeks rehab for my neck/shoulder next week as its fooked Hope I didn't make it any worse lol
Scott
Minimum of 1 full day. I would leave it for 48 hours though.
T2 MSW
we only went 80mm but depends what its going to be used for TBH, this was just for storage so no weight is going to go on it
Kranz
So 24 to 28 days then drill. I think I'll assemble the garage on top of it and wait a bit before I fasten it down then! I need if finished and ready to store my tools in by the end of the month lol
T2 MSW
Ive change it back, we drilled it for the anchors the following day but did not erect anything on it for nearly a month
Scott
24 to 28 days?? Sounds a bit extreme to me. We bolted my garage down after less than a week. Would have did it after a couple of days if we had the time.
Kranz
Ive change it back, we drilled it for the anchors the following day but did not erect anything on it for nearly a month Now, that's what I was thinking. Drilling will be ok before assembling the garage over the loose anchors in the holes. Then a couple of weeks later tighten them up as the concrete should be able to take the stress without cracking. Its C25 so hopefully will hold out I laid it onto 100mm compacted hardcore covered in DPM..... and the light rain that has just started is preventing it drying out too fast Sound like a decent plan? Oh, and thanks Mike & all

Oh, and thanks Mike & all You can drill your holes after a few days as your not putting load on, but even after one week your pour will only be at 25% strength. If you erect your frame before the 28 day curing period it shouldn't be a problem as it's only relatively light weight.
ozz
You didn't get one of those £600 metal garages from the likes of Argos did you? Only ask because I did and it is the biggest load of crap ever. I would never have one again even if offered for free!
brettjones
use thunderbolts to anchor you can get them from covers so easy to use ,drill hole put bolt in and tighten up job done little tip build your garage up and then drill and fix just in case you are not square

The real garage will be built later when funds allow hence the proper base. use thunderbolts to anchor you can get them from covers so easy to use ,drill hole put bolt in and tighten up job done little tip build your garage up and then drill and fix just in case you are not square Cheers Brett
ozz
I live on top of a mountain so that doesn't help, the roof doesn't slope enough and the apex sheets are too small so don't expect it to be watertight! I used building foam along the roof, looks sh1te but helped a little. Oh and its not secure, a 12 year old with scissors could get in!
