Guest RSjonny
Good post - as an aside where was the "mapping centre in Halifax"? Mike It was The Racing Line (TRL)
DODGYDODDS
A while ago I did a bit of research on this subject, I questioned numerous v-power fuel stations and also sent off numerous email to Shell UK. From memory, v-power in the UK was only slightly higher than normal premium fuels sold by the likes of esso and BP. Esso and BP premium fuel was 97RON and v-power (then called optimax), was 98RON. Optimax and v-power have always been different, like bp super unleaded to bp ultimate, two completely different formulas, or brands if you will. From memory v power has always been 99ron for the good few years it has been sold. They are probably putting 99 on the pump now, as V-power is 99 ron and they want to stand that fact out against the likes, of normal 97 ron supers and bp's 98ron ultimate. in a more expensive competitive market. This is a fifth gear article on it (optimax though not V-power) Where the fuels are tested on the dyno. Supras mentioned to dDHwCWdrtdg Optimax won, marginally but it is only benificial if you have a sportier engine

I thought that was the point in the higher RON fuels, to help boost performance engines. If your engine isn't designed for performance, then the fuel will have no effect.
