orrggg
hi just a question about the tensioner on a 93 non turbo am replacing the timming belt on my sup but when i stripped it down i was unsure about the tensioner(also crank seal is leaking so gona do both at same time) do you have to take it off to replace the belt to get the tension off the belt and fit it back on with a pin in it to hold the tension off to get the belt back on? am doing the work myself, used to be a mechanic a few years back so no what am doing but just wanted to check before i go and take it of the ones i,ve done in the past(non supras) i used to put a pin in the tensioner to hold the tension back then remove the pin when the new belt was installed is this how these are done is there another way thanks for any help ian:)
absz
remove the tensioner, then you can compress it using a vice or g-clamp fit a pin onto it and its ready to reuse:)

paul mac
there is a tolerance limit for the tensioner as stated in the service manual, mine was outside this so i binned it and got a new one, cost about £50-£60 IIRC
