cheekymonkey
Hey all I am in a bit of a pickle! We picked up Bear the puppy at the weekend and he's lovely, however after I play with him for a while I get sneezes and itchy eyes, sore throat, all that sort of thing, it feels the like the start of a cold. Now, I've never been allergic to dogs before and I had no such reaction a couple of weeks ago when we went to visit the whole litter and the mum. I don't know much about allergies but is it possible it's only a temporary thing? Surely my body will get used to it or am I in trouble here? Chris Wilson
Is this the Newfoundland pup? The adult dogs have a lot of lanolin in their coat, which helps waterproof them. It may be the puppy coat is soft and losing some hair and causing you some irritation. It may not happen with an adult dog. Maybe they gave it a bath in something before it left the mother that doesn't agree with you? You can out physche a lot of allergies, or become accustomed to the irritant over time. I'd give it a few months. Anti histamine may help, I don't know.
cheekymonkey
Yep it's the newfie. His fur is very soft and which is lovely in some ways but perhaps that's what's causing it. Will stick it out for a while and see what happens, I'll give it a week before I start popping pills though
