You have a plasma? You never said!

:p

Oh yes, it's a 50" plasma at that. Have I not mentioned it before? I thought I had. :innocent:

I love the look of some of them new OLED screens that are about 1cm thick.

Yeah but I believe the largest produced one was an 11" one and stupidly expensive?

Not really what you want to be watching telly on.

Plasma is the best option for 40"+ IMO. They just don't do plasma panels smaller than that.

I thought the plasma was going to be fazed out as they draw alot more power so were not very eco friendly also they dont last as long as the Lcd ones do they?

I don't believe it'll be phased out for quite some time, until another technology comes along that can better it. Sony did stop producing plasma's I believe, but from all accounts their plasma's were pretty crap anyway.

The latest plasma's power usage is comparable to LCD I believe, and even if left on 24 hours a day it would still be years before they start fading. Longer than you're likely to still have the TV anyway.

I doubt plasma will be fazed out, there are pros and cons for both. Plasma, you generally get a bigger screen for your buck, and they have no issues with blurring. As for the lifespan thing, utter rubbish mate. There are still gen 1 plasmas hanging in lakeside shopping center doing the same display that have been for the last 10 years.

Your probably right:)

A plasma screen will last approx 11 years if left on all the time :)

Really..when people tell you that they only last 10 years or so, they forget to tell you it has to be left on:blink:maybe plasma is the way to go then, they do seem to be a little cheaper...

Samsung do a 55" one now I believe (and various smaller ones) - at least I think they do, it's LED, not sure if it's OLED, UE55B7000WW

It's about £2000 at the moment, the 40" ones they do (a couple I believe) are around £1000.

Obviously nowhere near as awesome as your TV though sir :D

Ah yeah, those are just "LED" (not OLED)... and the LED bit just refers to the back lighting, it's still an LCD screen, not some fancy new technology like they'd have you believe. ;)

Indeed, 50" of awesomeness.

Pioneer have stopped making their own plasma panels too, which is a shame - theirs were good (but not cheap). I think they get them from Panasonic now.

I think I read they were pulling out of making TV's full stop.

But yeah the Pioneer Kuro Plasma's were always rated the best, but very expensive. Everything I read said that the Panasonic panels were a close second though.

Have I mentioned I have a 50" Panasonic plasma?

What do your neighbours have?

If its nice wait for them to leave some night and then help yourself.

I find this usually works out to be the cheapest option.

Then to really live dangerously, invite them over to watch a movie while they are waiting for their new one to arrive.

And so the cycle continues.

If so, then the story has changed. The last I heard, they were no longer making the panels but would continue with the TVs using Panasonic.

I've got the 42" Kuro and have been tempted to go for the 50" since this year is basically the last chance I'd have to buy one. I just think it might be a touch too big for my lounge though....

The neighbours are all about 80 and still have no idea what freeview is...not alone a flat screen.

Funny though they never seem to miss a trick!

They all prefer to look out of a window than watch a TV;)
