AndrewOW
Just to worry any arachnophobes further, it looks like it's a bumper autumn for creepy crawlies! http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/8273960.stm
ivan
Tell me about it, I've never seen this many before. I've just been out in the garden and seen at least 12 huge webs, all with their guardians sat in the middle. That'll teach me not to let the garden go to seed for too long. Blackie
While we were waiting for a taxi at billing at santapod we saw this, It was next to a busy road. It was like a city of spiders all with individual webs, Thousands of them horrible orange ones! The web combinded must of been seven feet tall, I was dared to climb on a bin and jump through it but i'm not a total nob

SupraP-Z
I believe these massive "football" sized spiders are called huntsmans, or something like that. Theres one, maybe 2 that live in my lounge. Clever little things they are, love to explore. Was sitting watching TV one night, must have been around 2 in the morning, i was sitting pretty still....and out of the corner of my eye i saw it come out of the gap where the fireplace is....it did a massive semi circle across the room, stopped under a newspaper n came my way. It was going pretty fast but it was under a foot away and i moved, making sure it saw me.....and the wierdest thing happened - it stopped dead in its tracks....took 3 steps back and it looked up at me! i was lyk wtf lol. obviouisly it played dead for a bit then it legged it. Clever things...apparently their eyesite isnt too good though
Blackie
it stopped dead in its tracks....took 3 steps back and it looked up at me! i Surely that would technically be 24 steps back?
nevins
all spiders are evil, and must repent or die by the bible. (Thrown from across the room pmsl)
hoff
Our place (barn conversion) is full of spiders at the moment. I hate house spiders, give me the creeps, so come bed time I'm terrified:d We get all differant types of species too, mainly the small round bodied ones with inch long hair thin legs *shiver*. But the other day we had the biggest "common" house spider I have ever seen:blink: My mum and dads place have had some big ones but I sh1t you not it was like a f@cking mouse. I have only ever seen ones that were slightly smaller, and they were just up in high corners and never moved. This mother was not stationary. My god it was fast accross the floor. Next thing it was on the patio door curtains, then on top of my PS3, then back. It took me 30 minutes to pull up my skirt and grab my balls. Once I did that I went to get a broom, the longest I could. Once I found it i gave it to helen and told her I thought it better for her to sort out:hide: I have no problems dealing (read killing) smaller ones, but big ones I really dont want to hurt. Maybe its a respect thing:D But I would have had to move if that one stayed in the house. If I had seen this thread I would have taken a pic. I really am a pussy when it comes to spiders. I would never be able to man up or even pretend one being in the bedroom didn't bother me. Though I do like arachnohobia the movie and am fascinated with them on nature programmes. I actually make a sure I watch something like Planet Earth if there are spiders on it. I hate them but love them. Wierd.
SupraP-Z
trust me this one was massive! maybe a little bigger than my palm, 3 steps back took it quite far! LOL to some of you guys comments. Just leave them be, unless they decide to eat you of course, i have heard of these "huntsmans" biting people...but as mentioned before they generally seem to be reasonably friendly
hoff
As long as they're not in the bedroom I'm fine with them in the same room as me. I just dont like thinking they may be crawling all over me while I sleep:d With work I do a lot of house surveys, some of which are barn conversions or unused homes. I get a lot of situations where I have to stick my head up into lofts etc which are full of cobwebs. Or stick a tape right next to a spider. I do it but it takes all my will. This is just my fear of spiders in this country. Put me in another country where they are bigger and/or dangerous I would probably die of fear if i had one n the house. That or come to get sed to it and be fine. No, just die of fear:d
