DodgyRog
Been looking to replace the wifes Mini with a slightly bigger car. Looked at a couple of Civic Type R's, but the decent ones are still just out of our budget. I do drive it now and again and think I might be able to slide a Altezza past the wife, but my knowledge on the Yamaha engine is none existant.......................so asking for any opinions and experience good or bad. Found a couple of these (Altezza (BEAMS) RS200 Z-Edition) local to me, so would like a heads up on any pitfalls or things to look for. Cheers in advance:) The sooner I replace her car , the sooner I get a TT 6speed;)
bigcol
I had the Altezza 2 years ago with the beams engine, to be honest i wish id never got rid of it it was a fantastic car, much more poke than the is200 yet still a good mpg out of it, basically if its got a good service history then go for it you wont be disappointed, fantastic car and becomming quite rare i am led to believe
DodgyRog
They are both fresh imports, one is in the country now and the other not until begining of October The wife likes the yellow one, but I like the milage on the Blue one:rolleyes: http://www.torque-imports.co.uk/cardetails.php?c=266 http://www.torque-imports.co.uk/cardetails.php?c=
bigcol
thats a hard one, to be honest i do like the yellow one colour wise (especially if its for the wife) but the blue does have better mileage, decisions decisions id go for the blue basically just for the mileage and the fact its over here now:d (why wait till october to blag a TT;))
DodgyRog
Going to have to wait till next year for the TT anyway, as we are also in the process of buy a Bungalow LOL:D
jimwire
I had an RS200 (see my garage), loved it and would have kept it but one of the piston rings went. Pretty sure I was unlucky.

Chris Wilson
It's considered one of the finest 4 cylinder engines made, along with the nodern Honda 4 pots. It even has titanium valves as stock. As for the car itself, no doubt it has the traditional Toyota build quality and longevity, but the looks do it no favours. As for the yellow one, oh, please, you CANNOT be serious? Gaz6002
The Beams engine is a lovely unit, but don't get a yellow one! Get it in the blue and give it a detail and some nice wheels and you'll have a stunner. Then, if you get bored, fit the 2JZ-GTE
jevansio
Blue is by far the better looking
DodgyRog
Unfortunately the blue one has sold during the week, he has another blue coming in during September. Going down to see them tomorrow, to see what sort of p/x deal they will do against her Mini. Jen still wants the Yellow one thou:rolleyes:
DodgyRog
Well we went down to Torque today to have a chat and they have taken a deposit on the blue one in the link above, but they have 4 in transit from Japan. In September they have blue, silver and white Altezza's and in October the Yellow one in the link above. Well as I suspected Jen wants the Yellow one:rolleyes:, so we had a chat about money and what we need for the Mini and they think they can give us the P/x we need, but need to check with a couple of traders, who they move there P/x er's through. So assuming on Monday they come back to us with the sort of figure we need, then we will place the holding deposit (refundable if we don't like the car upon inspection) and start the long wait for the new family run around:D Think I might get Jen on a skid pan course before it arrives thou:blink: A couple of different pics

jevansio
Are the wings stock? Did the blue one have them? If so that's why I liked the blue better, it hid the vents in the wings

We wouldn't have them by choice, but it's YELLOW
jevansio
So is this the same engine that comes in the latest MK2 MR2's?
DodgyRog
I did a search on here and someone else in a previous thread thought it is the same engine as the MR2 Turbo, so would be easy to drop a small single on:eyebrows: Don't tell Jen thou LOL
jevansio
No not the MR2 Turbo, the latest Mk2's came with a 2.0l Beams engine (normally aspirated), will be a 3S-GE IIRC
jevansio
Don't think it is the MR2 engine, that had 200bhp, this has 220bhp so it may be related, but not the same

Chris would proberbly know, hopefully he will re-appear on this thread to give us the answer:D
gsportcars
wings are deffo aftermarket. Before even considering that I was gonna tell you to have a good look at the front bumper and skirts. They won't be factory items either but if they are genuine TRD items then they will be plastic and not fibreglass. As is usually the case there are a silly amount of copy kits out there that can be poor. I have also noticed both cars have the dark lights as opposed to chrome. They are not standard either. Oh and I agree, don't get the yellow. I have considered that type of colour in the past and quickly dropped the notion, as after the initial........lets call it........novelty factor, goes then you will both prob hate it. These cars also have less sound deadening and comfort than the IS200 but are a much better driving car for it. Just that bit more raw. Higher revving, extra 57bhp slightly lighter etc etc. Although, Noisier, no leather, usual import radio functions. Oh and whatever you do don't buy the Altezza AS200. It has the same silly 2.0 six pot, 153bhp IS200 engine.

ilicos
Have you seen this one mate? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2000-TOYOTA-ALTEZZA-2-0-BEAMS-FRESH-IMPORT-VERY-CLEAN_W0QQitemZ120461476066QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAutomobiles_UK?hash=item1c0c1040e2&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14
DodgyRog
It looks clean, but it isn't the same car mate. It's the AS200, not a RS200. Basically it's the same as the IS200 Uk car but a low grade one, the RS 200 Beams is quite a different animal and it's an Auto. Thanks for posting it up thou
