Guigsy
Ok, Background. my fiance is currently in florida where her parents live awaiting a visa so we can get marrieD and settle in the uk. When she arrives we have to get married within 6 months. so we are trying to organise things as much as we can. We have a location and a date so she made some invitations. Made them herself as she is quite good at crafts and stuff and sent me them over to post. She also sent me a pass to get into seaworld. Her mum works there so i got it free. She also sent me a hankerchief for my suit that matched one she has that say bride and groom on them respectively. so the package drops through the door today. and its open. Usualy when a package is opened by accident they put it in another bag. or tape it up or something and put a sticker on there saying "opened by accident" or something dont they? Well this didnt have that. I now only have a note from my fiance saying what was in the package and what i had to do with it and 5 invitations. Nothing on the package saying it was opened by mistake or anything. the package isnt ripped open. Like it got trapped in some convayor or anything. Its opened at the end. like you would open it normaly. Now. I know there is very little chance i can get anything i'v lost back. But is it worth me going to the post office? It was just sent normal airmail from the usa and there is the green label on it that says how much its worth but it only comes to $15 or so. But thats not realy the point. My fiance spent a whole printer cartridge getting the invitations correct. And they are not cheep and she doesnt have a whole lot of money. She is goign to have to now find another hankerchief to match her's. Which might not be easy (i know its silly but she will want it as its one of those nice things to keep for memories of the day). And my seaworld free family pass i will probably NEVER get because her mum can only give so many and the number isnt very big. ARRRRRG! On the pluss side, i was offered a free mkiii supra today
jacko
Get the Mkiii, sell it, buy replacement bits! Tbh i dont know where you stand with such things, i'd probably give Royal Mail a ring and seek some advice
Thorin
I received half a letter the other week. The other half was torn off and nowhere to be seen. They did put it in a bag and eventually deliver it though. The sticker on the back said "damaged in customs". I know it sounds like they're from a different country, but I don't believe post from Liverpool needs to go through customs. I believe I've said before that Royal Mail are lying, thieving, scumbags. It might make you feel better ranting at them, but unfortunately I doubt it will get you anywhere. Good luck with the wedding.
Guigsy
Its done about 85k and is an NA auto. so probably not worth a whole load. its red/pink but that can be sorted out . No tax or MOT though. I also had to deal with royal mail at work (we supplied them with photocoppiers and printers) along with lying thieving scumbags. they dont do anything unless the union tells them. Some of offices complained that the photocopier was more than 15 paces from there desk. and this was unacceptable by the union... so we had to get them there own printer. And no, they wernt dissabled, just fuckin lazy. Im not the "go and stand in the post office shouting and getting pissedd off" kind of guy. id rather sit in my own pit of anger. I doubt i would get very far on the phone ether. i dont want to be sat on hold for hours. The best chance i have is to see if it just fell out of the local posties bag in his van or something and hope he handed it in to the local office. But thats a long shot. My invitations have my name and address on the back as a return to sender and on the front they have the name and address of the people who they are going to. but no stamp. So they should get to me. But who knows. If they dont they were knicked (for whatever reason)

hogmaw
They won't do anything unless it was sent with insurance. Sorry but that's [FACT]
Guigsy
yeah i know. its annoying though. even then they will probably say "oh it was probably done in the states... cant do anything... sorry"
tooley
even if its insured be careful when sending things like invites as we spend 100's of man hours on documents ie leases etc and every time the royal mail have lost special deliveries even insured spefic ones where you pay extra on top of the special we get the replacement value of the paper as all special deliveries are not insured for consequential loss so we lose many 1000's of pounds or at least we did.... from a cost point of view you will now find companies like apc for uk overnights and ups for internationals are not only cheaper than royal mail but you can track your packages every step of the way and your insured value is exactly what you get back should the package get lost or damaged you cant stop things from being held by customs though which can at times add a few days extra to your delivery

Paul
Phone up and complain, they send you a free book of stamps so you can send more things of value for the thieving b*stards to knick

I'd kick off about it, it's blatantly been opened and the contents stolen. Threaten to go to the papers about it and sue them. You might not get your stuff, but I'm sure they'll compensate you for your loss. Gutted to hear about this though, it's crap when you can't even trust and rely on the postal service to simple deliver your mail without fucking up. hogmaw
In defence of royal mail, I have run a worldwide mail order business for about 20 years now, and I can confidently say that 99.9% of letters/packages that we send arrive at their destination intact. That's a pretty good record for any business, unless of course if you're part of the 0.1% (that's you Guigsy)
benkei
"royal mail in 'opened my letter' shocker" i dont think the papers will be that interested Anything to distract from the real news! Any BS is front page material these days! And I was refering more to the theft of the contents of the mail, not just the actual openning of said mail! Alternatively, you could just start a thread about it on the forum and have a moan... Oh wait
