Slow start, but enjoyed it. Not what was expected from the adds but gets a 7/10. The CGI was very good but similar to Cloverfield felt it had been let down by the way it was put together. Worth a watch though.

I thought his accent sounded more Scouse when he started swearing.

Definitely some "northern English" in there!

**********SPOILERS**********

Watched this last night, good film but not a great film (IMO). Good effects though. the accent of the lead guy was truly awful and did spoil the film - why bother having such realistic effects if the lead doesn't match up! Also, massive plots holes in it - the biggest of which (unless I missed something) is why didn't we strip the ship down and why couldn't we find the control centre in 20 years. Bit lame really but otherwise an entertaining watch.

With all the legal rights they were given i'm not sure they'd of been allowed to 'strip down' their ship. Also, even if they did find the command centre they probably couldn't of used it because of the same reason they couldn't use their guns.

Was the guys accent really that bad? I didn't even notice and i've been to South Africa twice!

a useless bit of info but this was originally going to be the "halo" (xbox game) movie, so is based around that, apparently there was a arguement between game makers and film guys because they wanted to remove master chiefs helmet in the film but halo guys werent having any of it so pulled the plug on it!!!

I liked the film, was quite different from what I expected. Now the weird bit...

Did anyone else notice the letter T made up by 5 dots (3 horizontal, 2 verticle underneath) flash up on screen at all? it happend about 4 times for me, no one else i went with saw it.

I often see things in films others dont, like witht The Ring, when the ring kept flashing on screen very quickly, no one else noticed that either. I sometimes wonder if its because of my color blindness I know that my eyes process images slightly slower, which may be why they register with me, just a theory :)

Just seen this as was just released on dvd- great film IMO, probably best of 2009 with Hangover after it :)

is why didn't we strip the ship down and why couldn't we find the control centre in 20 years.

The ship was massive and maybe they didn't want to risk it crashing onto the surface

(1)And if he could instinctively work it why didn't he do the bullet catch thing that the kid did to save him? Its like picking up a gun and using it to stab people. Also,(2) flying away at the end? The guy was in charge of an intergalactic ship. Why didn't he just start picking up his people? Pah!

(1) +1 grumble

(2) maybe the ship was lacking defensive capabilities against certain missile strikes  the alien did say he was going back for help and mentioned the 3yrs thing hence a possible sequel.

Not me either

I thought this film was rubbish

And how the hell could all the humans understand what the aliens were saying?

The advert for this looked amazing but i was really dissapointed, had no meaning or point to it in any way

totally agree i thought it was rubbish too

Watched it, thought it was a really good movie - quite factual when it comes to the human psyche and the extent that humans are prepared to go through in order to exploit a species, race (in this case parallels with the africans in a-partite SA), resources (weapons, etc).

EDIT: thought the SA accent was done well, any more thicker and I wouldn't be able to understand the dude :)

I agree this film is better than avatar anyday

from what aspect?
