Ric
Well ive just watched district 9 and my, what can i say, easily the best film of the year so far in my eyes, the story is fantastic and the style it's shot adds loads of depth to it. Great graphics and effects also, even though they are using relatively unknown actors (to me anyway) they pull it off flawlessly as dodgy as the south African accent is its easy to follow and comical at times one for the recommendation table imo if you like an alien puzzle with some body part ripping gore
TTRickeh
Oooh I saw the trailer for this when I was in the cinema and wanted to go see it, didn't know it was out yet, glad to hear you liked it might go see it on thursday Either that or Inglorious Basterds which everyone seems to be going on about but I don't really like the look of it
Thorin
Saw the trailer for this the other day, looked good.

Scott
I turned this off about 20 mins in. Does it get better? I wasn't overly impressed so far, will maybe give it a go when i get home. I really don't like the way its been filmed, reminds me of cloverfield, that way of filming ruined that movie IMO.
ellis
Saw it at the cinema last night and was engrossed the whole way through. Seamless effects, great stiry, incredibly well done - great film in my opinion! Scott - should have kept watching, well worth it!
Lbm
I went to see this on Sunday afternoon. The first 10 minutes were me wrestling with the possibility that it may have been a mistake to have gone. Then I went with it - A very enjoyable film with some excellent performances from the unknown cast. Go and see it Scott - should have kept watching, well worth it! marc_p
Yup, I watched this a couple of days ago, really enjoyed it. I turned this off about 20 mins in. Does it get better? I wasn't overly impressed so far, will maybe give it a go when i get home. I really don't like the way its been filmed, reminds me of cloverfield, that way of filming ruined that movie IMO. I thought exactly the same but it doen't stay in that 'newscaster' format for too long, just watch it all the way through it's good once it gets into a proper storyline. ellis
Must admit, I thought the same for the first 15 mins but after they set the scene with that it is a superb film - I didn't fidget once and forgot about my foam bananas completely!! ozz
**********SPOILERS********** Watched this last night, good film but not a great film (IMO). Good effects though. the accent of the lead guy was truly awful and did spoil the film - why bother having such realistic effects if the lead doesn't match up! Also, massive plots holes in it - the biggest of which (unless I missed something) is why didn't we strip the ship down and why couldn't we find the control centre in 20 years. Bit lame really but otherwise an entertaining watch.
DaveR
Cool. All sounds good. I'd planned on seeing this at the weekend anyway. Sold!
AndrewOW
I do agree that if you're going to set a film in a specific location, why the main lead roles are either originally from there, or at least screen tested to make sure they sound authentic. It does baffle me, as I'm sure that they'd be worth the money! Despite that, I will look forward to seeing this.
Wez
I saw this the other day, its an OK film, a bit better than some of the cr@p thats been released recently.

Scott
I forgot about this thread, i actually went back and watched the movie in its entirety. After the 20 mins of sheite it got pretty good. I quite enjoyed it but i wouldn't say it was an excellent flick, it was OK. The cast acted OK but the accents from some were terrible. I have to say though, the effects are absolutely mind blowing. I have never seen anything so close to reality, the new benchmark IMO. Spoiler The one bit that really annoyed me was when he got in the suit thing. How could he instinctively work it? And if he could instinctively work it why didn't he do the bullet catch thing that the kid did to save him? Its like picking up a gun and using it to stab people. Also, flying away at the end? The guy was in charge of an intergalactic ship. Why didn't he just start picking up his people? Pah!
Bobbeh
I saw this on the weekend, liked it a lot, very funny and leave it wide open for a sequel
ellis
Saw it for the 2nd time last night with my lad - still think it's a good film! CGI is seamless!
Thorin
Thought it was OK, not brilliant. Deliberately didn't explain anything so they can have a sequel I suppose.

Carl
Thought this was a good film. Seen plenty of other films using the documentary feel to it but I thought this one worked much better and I actually liked the lead guys African voice. He added a lot of humour to the film which just worked nicely. As mentioned, they certainly left it open for a sequel. One of the more enjoyable films I have seen of late if you dont take it all too seriously. Carl
Marco
I didn't like his south african accent, it sounded more eastern-european or russian to me. The film started well with the docu style footage, but they didnt carry that through the entire film, wich is a shame. The 'shrimps' were real nice alien designed characters. 8/
