replacing boot

If there were no complications, I could change a tailgate in 10 minutes. Last time I did it, there were complications... :D

As Dude has already advised, it is much easier with help, but it can be done on your own. Here is the method I'd use, I'm not saying it is the best way, but it is the way I did it:

1) Open tailgate.

2) Remove grommet on passenger side near where the tailgate meets the roof.

3) Unclip loom in hole. First time I did this it popped out really easily, second time I attempted it but couldn't unclip so had to cut the wires and re-join later on.

4) Remove grommet on opposite side.

5) Unplug wire (much easier than the first side).

6) Use a piece of wood, or broom handle to prop up tailgate.

7) Loosen bolts where the gas struts meet the rain channels.

8) Peel back roof lining to reveal bolts/nuts in roof (can't quite remember).

9) Loosen bolts/nuts.

10) Completely remove nuts from part 7.

11) Completely remove bolts/nuts from part 9. The tailgate should remain where it is, but ideally you'd have a helper holding it so you don't damage anything.

12) Hold onto tailgate and move wood/broom handle out of the way at the same time. Lift off the tailgate like a hero, or get someone to help - it is rather heavy.

13) To put another tailgate on, just do the above in reverse. I recommend locating the bolts where the tailgate meets the roof first.

Don't blame me if you break anything. :)
