SupraStar 3000
I've used silicone gel to fix some acrylic sheets (with applied vinyl tint) to a fiberglass substrate,.. but accidentally got some silicone on the face of the transparent acrylic (quite a lot actually doh). Thinking it would simply roll off like Copydex glue with rubbing i let it dry, but now only small patches of silicone will roll off, the thicker lumps seem to have bonded really well, its taken me hours just to clean up a small area. I want to try white spirit or thinners but I'm worried it may react with the acrylic or vinyl tint and dont have any material left to test on. I really dont want to f**k it up as its cost me £100s to get this far.
AndrewOW
Very difficult IMO. Did you try using Kleenex, like usual then?
jacko
I can go and put some thinners on a bit of acrylic here if you want, see what it does
Scott
Thinners will burn and cause miniscule cracks to the acrylic if its too strong. Heat often helps but you have to be careful how you go about applying heat. Can you not just pull the lumps off with pliars and then rub the stuff away? An acrylic scraper? SupraStar 3000
Yep! I just know I'm going to put nice deep scratches in the tinted windows if I do that. But I think your right.
Chris Wilson
Some say acetic acid will soften it, but I haven't tried. I *THINK* there's a commercially available remover, but how it reacts with acrylic plastics I have no idea.
Whitesupraboy2
I used acetone to remove some stuff like this before, but dont know how it will react with the tint.
AndrewOW
As Michael will probably suggest, kill it with fire!
jacko
You could try silicone remover, ie- panel wipe type stuff. Cant you rip the tint off and put some more on?
