Science ponders 'zombie attack'

Why worry, they would simply all die of starvation, not enough brains in this world to go around! :D

Seriously though (if you can say that in this thread), if everyone that gets bitten gets turned, they would just die out through lack of food.

Meh, just sit it out.

Zombies don't eat per se. Biting is just a form of attack to them. You've obviously never read any zombie books.

Zombies will eventually decompose and present no further theat. It would take several years though depending on the climate.

I cant see how it would take several years tbh, Bodies decompose quite quickly. In reality one thats been rotting for a month or two would pose no threat

I've seen a few films and they eat human flesh. Mainly liking the brains side of the menu.

Trying to be somewhat realistic, nothing can survive without sustenance, they can't be dead and moving around.

The eating is merely their natural basic instinct - to feed, which is what they do... on anything that moves really, mainly humans. They don't NEED to eat, and how would they starve to death? They're already dead. Like trying to drown a fish in water.

Zombies take a few years to decompose to the level where they are relatively harmless, depending on the climate. And even after you think they're all gone, there will still be some lurking around, especially ones who go walking and end up underwater.

If you like looking at zombie attacks in 'realistic' events, get this book:

The Zombie Survival Guide

It's really detailed in what to do in all phases of an outbreak. What to do and what not to do. Also, in the back it has catalogued events of zombie attacks, and some of them are interlinked which is quite cool.

Day of the Dead 'proved' that they eat by instinct and not hunger, nice sceen that one.

The brains part come from the Laughable Return of the Living dead movie.. (Although I quite liked it too :) )

Mike,

Have you read World War Z yet? It's the aftermath of a zombie holocaust told by the survivors. It details how they coped, how news broke out, how they eventually turned the tide and then onto rebuilding humanity.

It's one of my favourite books of recent times. A movie is being made of it but read the book first.

Can't find the book at the moment (it being 21:17), but I am getting hold of the audio book, voiced by the Author.

Might give that a go later.

You're missing the point, the article is about a realistic spread of a virus that you could desribe as turning people into zombie like creatures.

By the very definition of the word dead, it has no life in it. It is impossible for something to be dead and move around to the degree that is portrayed in fantasy.

For zombies to exist in reality, they would have to have sustenance of some kind, including water and food otherwise they wouldn't last more than a week. By the end of that week they would be so feable they would be no threat.

Things can't be dead and move around, but they could possess dead like qualitys and be alive however.

I can't even believe i'm debating this! :D

Conclusive!

And backed up by the 3rd Resident Evil...but contradicted by 28 Days Later...But those weren't 'real' zombies, more the viral infected subjects of this threads beginnings.

Just finished this book and can I just say thanks.. What a good read..

Was an interesting look into how a WWZ could start/be run and finish..

Any other book suggestions?

Also if they are 'real' zombies, it's not the bite that turns you into a Zombie but the simple fact of dying, the bite 'just' kills you.

Imagine that, everyone dying coming back.. The WWZ book made be think of what you could do in post Zombifiac towns.. Zombie brothels anyone? :sly:

As the great man himself once said...

I got a great big pointed fang

Which is my Zomby Toof

My right foot is bigger than my other one is

Like a reg'lar Zomby Hoof

If I raid your dormitorium

Don't try to remain aloof...

I might snatch you up screamin' through the window all nekkid

An' do it to you on the roof,

don't mess with the ZOMBY WOOF

I am about as evil as a Boogie Man can be
