Gear changes feel different after ECU swap

Very strange thing, for some time now I have noticed that my gearchanges are not as smooth as they used to be. I kept thinking that they were becoming slow and sometimes thought I was feeling slip when thrashing it. I put this down to wear and tear and the fact I had not done a fluid change for an age.

So, since swapping out my ecu last week to cure another fault, my changes are as slick as they used to be when I first got the car. I thought it was just me and the fact that I had not been out in it for a while but then yesterday out of the blue my GF mentioned it too.

I am wondering if my old ecu had been failing in other ways too, maybe a bit of smoothing on one of the rails not would it should be or a regulated rail fallin over, but it does seem to be changing loads better than it was pre ECU change. Possible??
