changing front brake pads

As per this thread

I'm having some issues with my brake calipers atm, I've bought some de-greaser and some high temp moly grease to re-grease the caliper sliders,

IIRC when I undid the bottom bolt on the drivers side the caliper (when grabbed from the bottom) could pivot up, allowing me to remove the old pads and when pushed towards the car the sliding pin would come out with the caliper, is this correct?

On the passenger side where I seem to be having the issues, you undo the bottom bolt and the caliper will pivot but I can't get it to slide out, do you have to undo the top bolt too?

Also, when "re-greasing the sliders" is refered to, I take it this is just removing the caliper with the slider, cleaning the slider down with de-greaser, then re-grease with Moly grease and insert back into the caliper?

Is there both upper and lower sliding pins on each caliper?

The passenger side one was seized (top) after some welly I managed to get it out, I took a photo with my phone, it was caked with shite, scraped it off, soaked it in degreaser, then on the advise of John (Hodge) I rubbed it down with some wet & dry, re-greased it and re-fitted it and it slides in and out fine now, was going to do the same on the drivers side but before I do (I know this is a bit of a noob question) can anyone confirm how many pins there is in each caliper? :search:

Well, answered my own question (As stupid as it was)

removed cleaned & regreased all 4 sliding pins on my calipers, the drivers side was fine anyway but decided to do it while the wheel was off.

Only question I have is...

On the end of each pin is a little rubber ring, what is the purpose of this and are they 100% necessary?

The reason I ask is that 2 of mine were missing these anyway and the 2 that were still there wouldn't sit on the end of the pin and go back in the casting once they had been greased :search:

Just done a little digging and came accross konio-nt's thread on changing the front pads

http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=120701&highlight=changing+rear+brakes

My car doesn't have those anti-squeal shims fitted, there wasn't any there when I removed the old pads...

Could this be what's causing the squeal? I know it's only on the passenger side but still

Where can I get these and does anyone know a part number?
