tony tt
Hi has anyone ever fitted a butterfly valve to their exhaust? I recently got stopped by the police and said mine is too loud! Ive a bpu tt6 and an hks silent power exhaust i dont really want to change it. Is there a way to fit a valve in it to quieten it down in the town at least? I know the RS4 audi has an electronic one but not sure what the expense of getting one is if it can be done. Thanks for any input folks. jevansio
I had one to fit a 4" exhaust, made by QuickTime Performance. Worked a treat too
tony tt
Thanks lads does it close at lower revs then open when you plant the shoe?
SupraShaun
The Apexi one has a cable that runs to the cockpit, so you open and close it yourself.

jevansio
Mine was controlled from within the car with an electronic switch

jevansio
It is Aero yes, you can hear the change about half way through the vid, it's hard to capture the change in loudness on my little vid cam as its the low rumble that disappears when the valve is closed, I think on the vid it's most noticable as the feedback/interference on the sound comes/goes when the valve is open/closed
tony tt
Ive looked at the apexi butterfly valve i just wondered where it fits into the exhaust? Does it just slip in like the restrictor ring?
Dazzi
I've had one before. The backpressure created by this was very bad, it made the car shake and ran rich. I was told everytime I used it I need to flash reset the ecu as it was messing with the fueling.

Does it just slip in like the restrictor ring? yes from memeory they are about 15mm thick and can go anywhere in the exhaust, mine was after the second decat pipe, they are quite effective and can tone down the most raucous of exhausts I've had one before. Tricky-Ricky
I would imagine running one closed in a N/A at higher rpm is going to play havoc, they are only meant for lower rpm, i have one in my single and i can't actually make boost with it closed. Tricky-Ricky
Should make very little difference to and N/A in those circumstances, unless you are rung with cats in and the valve actually closes off the exhaust flow.
