UK Supra - APEXI AVCR Tuning required

Hi Guys

My brother has a UK Supra Turbo and had an EBC fitted. It was fitted before the upgrade to the exhaust. Now a NUR Spec R has been fitted the car seems to be running worse. The idle seems very slightly lumpy and when you accelerate the engine management light comes on at high revs but then goes out once the revs return to normal levels. I need to know if anyone in london is available some time this weekend to set it up for him? I hope that this is the only reason for whats happening but open to any suggestions.

I know that a UK supra can boost up to 1.5 bar, unlike the J Spec 1.2 bar. Will the APEXI AVCR and the standard UK Supra ECU be capable of this? My brother was told he would need a piggy back ECU and that the APEXI alone would not do the trick??? He was told that the standard ECU would not be capable of running high (1.5) although the turbos can because they are larger than the Jspec??

Please help as my brother is doing my nut in lol

I wouldn't go boosting up to 1.5 bar on standard UK turbos, you won't gain any additional power in my experience, mine seemed to max out at 1.3 and from then on they just generated more heat and no additional power. This was with an FMIC, exhaust, decats etc.

I have my AVCR set to 1.25 / 1.3 and had it checked by Thor on their dyno when they set the SAFC up for me - I might be able to give you some settings if I can get access to where I put them. When I got my car back from work at a previously respected trader here I went on a trackday and found the AVC-R settings were a mess, too much duty was giving me overboost issues so that's another one to watch.

Does he have a fuel cut defender fitted? Sounds like he might just be hitting fuel cut, to be expected at that kind of boost.

Your experience sounds very familiar....a very very respected trader on here yes! (North London to be precise).

If you could get the settings that would be fantastic. I just phoned him and he said yes the car sort of cuts outs but does not turn the engine off. It continues to drive but the engine management light comes on for a few seconds and then goes out. Sounds like your right. Does he need this piggy back ECU or not? And is it easy to set up once I have the settings (assuming you find them)?

He doesn't need a piggy back, he does need a fuel cut device though, has he got one? If not stick with stock boost and turn the AVCR off for now.

I can't get to my settings here because my ISP have screwed up but I'll try to check from home later on, I think I have a local copy there - they are a starting point though, not "teh greatest settings for every Supra eva" or anything.

He does have a fuel cut defender. Hope you can get me those settings please plus any guidance on actually setting it up as I'm only a novice but not a shy one. His boost was set at 1.2 bar and not changed since then. He was told about the 1.5 bar but didn't have it turned up to that.

(Duty is in learning mode in this pic)

Start Duty settings were all on 0% to begin with.

I've tinkered with things since this and obviously it's long past learning mode with a specific duty setting now but I'm sure you can get to grips with that. Apexi have the manuals available for download on their site, grab and study before you mess around too much.

This is also quite useful:

Double check the fuel cut defender is set to a suitable level too, might be at 1.2.

Once again thanks Michael. I'm now an unofficail AVCR technician! The car is running more like it should. I've been tweaking the duty settings and seem to have got it right. The boost peaks at 1.3 to 1.34. Could yo please tell me your duty settings for 1,2,3 etc? Cheers

To put things into perspective the duty levels were 1st - 5%, 2nd - 4% and third - 0%! WAY OUT..

The car was being held back and now having read those threads I understand why. I have managed to get the boost to peak at 1.3 to 1.35 now with the cooler air in the eves. My brother is well chuffed and told me to say thanks, so thanks Mike!

I'll wait for your duty settings if you get a chance, just want to see what settings you have settled for. Cheers
