TTRickeh
Just been to Toyota who said they wont change my wheel bearings as there's a special tool 'which costs £500' that's needed and it isn't worth it just to do my car. Are they telling porkies?
dwayne
i have been told you need a special tool every time and i'll probably get shot down for this but i always use a socket the same size as the bearing or something similar and hammer them out (done plenty but not on the supra yet) then use a vice and/or some gentle tapping to put the new one in
caseys
I remember my friend having to take my hub off and use a 10 ton pneumatic press to get a wheel bearing fitted on my previous car... don't know if I'd call that a special tool though. Otherwise no other tools required iirc. Just a very good bearing press.
James
Only wheel bearing I've ever had to help with was on a Civic and it required a complete hub assembly. Same with Audi A4s as a mate is needing one too. Sorry Rick
monsween
Yip just a big hydraulic press, i believe there was a place down the beach somehwere that my mate got his clio ones done for a 10er and beers. I'll see if i can find out
TTRickeh
That'd be good, cheers Kieran. I knew you needed a press but I assumed Toyota would already have that for any other sort of wheel bearing job. I've already got the hubs off the car so it's just a fairly in-out sort of job. Car Clinic would do it but they wont use parts that you source yourself (even stock Toyota ones), and I don't really have any experience of any other garages, was going to pop into Bridge of Don garage to see if they'd do it. Chris Wilson
Anyone with a suitably big hydraulic press will have some assorted mandrels to press the bearings in and out with, I'd have thought, or they can turn some up in a lathe easily enough. They will have one, its just the usual bull shit that the Aberdeen Toyota garage come out with. Aparently they couldnt service an imported supra because all the tools are different. I think it was left hand screwdrivers that they were missing

James
To think I was going to go up there for a front badge. They'll probably have some excuse for me...
monsween
They only make badges for uk specs, They dont have the proper glue for the j-spec badge. The glue for the uk spec will irritated the j-spec bumper. Anymore Excuses?
