Turbo an NA without engine swap

Anyone that suggests adding positive charge pressure to an N/A engine without re maping have to be jokers. Even assuming the kit's any good (and at that price it'll be junk), you MUST fit a mappable ecu and have the ignition and fuelling set up to use boost. It'll end in tears and you'll wonder why you didn't flog it and buy a factory TT or do it properly if you pursue this sort of priced kit. You CANNOT turbo an N/A PROPERLY for less than the cost of a complete running and tidy Supra TT, given that early ones are now sub 5K cars even at retail prices, and a LOT LOT less in the trade.

I've now come to my senses, :dand realised that yes, the only way is a TT:d:d, however as this is a mint SzR model (6 speed) i'm gonna go down the engine swap route:cool:

any advice? the old owner of my car said to budget for around 2.5k all fitted, is this about right? what else will i need apart from complete engine with turbos, intercooler, ecu, boost gauge?:search:

bzzt - no pimping your wares in tech

also if you do go for the swap, try Keeron on this site, i current have one (na-t) which he did for the guy i bought it from and trust me he did a great job, last i heard he only charges £2300 for the basic conversion, thats a very good price, you get the engine, ecu and loom fitted all ready do drive straight out. if you want an intercooler you would probably have to pay a little extra tho.

I think you mean "keron": http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/member.php?u=676

:)

gt4tosupra, based on what you're trying to achieve I'm convinced running a stock TT engine is the best way to go.

Before you spank the plastic on a TT lump, the easiest way to do it as pointed out already is to sell the SZ-R and buy a TT. As it's a 6-speed SZ-R, it'll command a price premium over other SZ's. Having said that, it's not always easy to sell cars on. A lot of people would probably express an interest but when it comes to doing the deal, people can "thin out".

Do also bear in mind that an NA-TT would be worth less in resale value than a similar TT.

There is an unwritten rule, that I really should get to writing, that you don't pimp your wares in tech unbidden. Unless someone specifically asks for prices for kit, please don't wade in offering your wares. Thank you.

As it's an unwritten rule I've left your post intact this time around :)

Changed my mind as I've seen you're selling all sorts of tat everywhere and are VAT registered yet aren't a trader...?

Cheers for the advice! I just need to start saving money up now!

Do standard TT's have intercoolers btw?

ofcourse they do

as ive said before going NA-T is exactly the same as going single on a TT.

Thought they did, but just couldnt see it in the engine bay picks, whereas my gt4 intercooler can be spotted a lot more easily!!;)

Defo gonna go for tt engine swap tho, keep it toyota, no aftermarket na-t upgrades!

lol so instead you want plenty problems witht a complicated turbo setup instead constantly going wrong :p hope you got deep pockets! :D

also the intercooler on a TT is a sidemount which sits on the drivers side behind the bumper

It isn't.

As Chris said earlier, the TT engine is build for turbocharging whereas the NA is built for natural aspiration.

Also, the physical kit is different.

Just thought I'd add that because people may read your post and think a TT single kit will bolt straight on to an NA.

So with mine being a 6 speed szr, with lsd and tt brakes, and hks hypermax2 coilovers, would this swap be as simple as engine and ecu only?:D

I'm right at the edge of my knowledge here, but although your 6-speed SZ-R (I'm jealous!) already gives you a lot of what you'd need, I *think* you'd need (in addition to engine and ECU) an intercooler and the TT wiring loom. If anyone else on here thinks otherwise, believe them before me! :)
