O/D light blinking, TC not working, manu button not working!

hey guys, please be gentle with me, its my first post!

well i am now officially the proud owner of the 96TT supra (imported from japan), and have a few issues with it! minor quibbles.

for starters, the O/D light is constantly blinking, i suspect an error code with the auto, will be getting it checked out tomorrow!

next thing.....i have two buttons for traction control and neither does anything......if you give the car heaps, the car steps out sideways.....so i know the TC isnt working at all!

thirdly....the MANU button doesnt seem to do anything at all, nothing on the dash, doesnt drive any different, like it just doesnt work at all.

could all these sympthoms be related to one problem? i've noticed a relay could be missing from a little relay box on the right hand side of the engine bay. it has relays in a 2x2 configuration, but one looks like its missing. (mine has 3)

Any advice guys? thanks

First off, welcome to the club mate.

Having carried out a quick search on here, a flashing OD light points to a possible problem with a speed delimiter. Is the car restricted, or will it carry on past 112mph?

The TC is rubbish in these cars, even with it on, you can get them to step out. When yuou get the wheels spinning, does the traction control flash up on the dash?, if not, it may well be disconnected.

The MANU button should illuminate a light on the dash, if in D, it will drop the car to third if cruising, you then have manual shift control between L (first gear), 2 (second gear) and D (third gear), great fun in the twisties. I was only reading the other day about a dicky manu switch in someone's auto shift lever thing. Take the lever off and see if it's disconnected, failing that, try another lever.

I have no idea about the relay bit I'm afraid, I don't have an auto anymore so can't verify it for you.

Good luck

O/D flashing light normally throws up an error code due to a dodgy speed de-limiter being installed. Taken the car past 180kph anywhere private yet (of course not on the public road).

I assume you know what the MANU mode does on the box? Click the link to have a read. You should have the MANU light come up on your rev gauge dial, if it's not it could be a blown light, of course it may not be that.

Stock TC isn't really that good, sometimes it'll let you step out sideways I believe!

You know how to get the error codes yourself out the diagnostic port yes? click the blue text error code you have in your first post. If you can post up the error codes you're getting on here people may be able to help further with a diagnosis.

Here's a pic of the inside of the cover on the driver's footwell fusebox

Sorry can't find a thread at the moment on the engine bay fusebox layout, but I know it's around somewhere!

Cheers

Si

ok....took it to an auto trans place where they actually knew what they were doing!

the trans is producing error code 89, according to the auto trans guy thats an issue with the traction contol, engine light is not producing any errors at all, just blinking away normally!

now i've checked the fuses and swapped the relays for the TC.....not sure where to go from here!

any more advice guys?

If you remove the TRAC in an auto it will flash the OD light to tell you there is a problem with the TRAC, I got my OD light rewired by Matt Harwood or someone does a TRAC removal kit, I think its HKS. Ive taken my TRAC ecu out and the OD light is now flashing but it wont for long cause it will be 6 spd soon.
