Hrenowsky
Yesterday evening i went for a drive. After about 20miles i stopped at a car park where i met with my mates. After about 5mins there was a slight hiss under my engine bay, and at first i just thought that the expansion bottle was bubbling, so i took no further notice of it. After a half hour, we came back to the car, and there was a little river running from the bottom of my car trough the car park. I checked the water level and there wasn't even a drop of coolant left in the system. So the car was towed back home. Today i managed to find the leak and took some pics of it. Now my question is this, how can fix the block, besides welding it, because i don't want to remove the engine from the car? And it's a N/A Pics: http://img217.imageshack.us/img217/4691/08082009009.th.jpg http://img90.imageshack.us/img90/2253/08082009008.th.jpg http://img269.imageshack.us/img269/1536/08082009006.th.jpg
Miguel
A bit blurry, but if it's leaking from the core plug, they are replaceable.
pistonbroke
Thats the first time I've seen that. Looks like the plug next to it has been replaced at some point too.
pezzler
i had this on my old n/a a couple years back. managed to pop the core plug out, in-situ, using the precision of a mallet and screwdriver. i bought a bag of assorted plugs off of ebay, found one that matched, and popped it back in. easy job, just dont drive it untill its replaced
Hrenowsky
Well, my supra hasn't been that well looked after, so she can give me quite a headache from time to time. Sorry for the low-q pics, as they were taken with a mobile. Yep, it's leaking from the core plug, i just didn't know what it was:). Ebay then? What about a toyota dealership, can they supply them? pezzler
like i said, i got a bag of assorted core plugs from ebay, they were cheap and arrived pretty quickly. was easier to sift through a bag of assorted bag of plugs to match it up with one that would fit well. im sure toyota would be able to order one in for you but theyre readily available at a few different places online also. if you were planning on prizing it out with a screwdriver, what i did was: lightly puncture the plug at a central point, and very gently lever it out putting pressure all around the plug. be very careful not to damage the bore. i sealed the new plug with blue hylomar

Hrenowsky
Does anybody know the inner and outer diameters of the plug? I'm thinking of getting them made, cause it's quicker than waiting for the dealer to get them
Miguel
You can get the part numbers for the core plugs you need from HERE. A good main dealer should be able to get them in within a day or two
Hrenowsky
Not around here. As there are only five supra-s (including mine) in the country. Last time it took them a week to get the thermostat:rolleyes: and i just don't have the time to wait for them, as she's my daily drive. So i would very much appreciate it if someone could get me the diameters of the plug (it's the one with the part number 96411-43500). Hrenowsky
Got one, was 35,7mm, but my mechanic made it fit (using an old school lathe). So i'll be fitting it later today, yay! The old one i took out was completely corroded, which worries me, if the other ones are also corroded and are going to leak.

Fit the one you got to keep you going, but you should probably order a set of new ones from Toyota and fit them later on?!
ronttuk
i would replace them all if ones corroded so will the others be after uve fitted that one order a set from toyota and go though the lot its usually a sign of no antifreeze being used at one time or another
Hrenowsky
Well that didn't hold long... Broke yesterday evening. But i still managed to get a ticket for speeding:blink: Will be ordering the complete set from toyota first thing on monday!
Hrenowsky
I went to the toyota dealer, and almost got a heart attack. They want 5pounds for one plug (The complete set 11+2 was just short of 75quid). Ordered two big ones and i should get them friday. I've also determined the origin of the leak, it's not the one i replaced, it's the one on the left side (from my replacement plug). Keep in mind, the second leak happened one day after i've fixed the first one. Can't shake the feeling, that it's my fault for not putting coolant in. As i just filled it with water to do a couple of test runs...
Miguel
Might be cheaper to get one of the US guys to ship you some? $5 over there.
